MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (9/7)

While it’s nowhere near as bad as last Thursday when we only had three games to choose from, today’s MLB slate has only six games on the board. Often, I find these slates to be the most attractive, as being limited makes it much easier to choose our favorite games.

Let’s dive into it and see what games we like best to target in the No Runs First Inning (NRFI) market.

Thursday’s Best No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Seattle Mariners vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Pitching Matchup: Luis Castillo vs. Zack Littell

The Rays’ pitching factory has seemingly done it again with today’s starter Zack Littell. Littell numbers don’t really jump off the page, but as a starter, his ERA has been mid-four, and he has given the Rays another viable starter. Seattle is as hot as any team in baseball, but Littell has been solid the first time through the order with a wOBA allowed of 0.307.

As always, Luis Castillo has been a near ace and might be among the favorites for AL CY Young. He has an insanely excellent 0.258 wOBA allowed the first time through the order. While the Rays’ offense is elite, Castillo is undoubtedly talented enough to keep them off the board in the first inning.

Bet: NRFI (-115)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins

Pitching Matchup: Ryan Pepiot vs. Braxton Garrett

On a thin slate where one of the games involves Adam Wainwright facing the Braves offense, we have to make what may seem like sub-optimal choices. Braxton Garrett has been one of the most surprising pitchers in baseball this season, with a fantastic ERA supported by most estimators. He faces a Dodgers’ lineup with arguably the best top two hitters in the league, but he has a solid 0.310 wOBA allowed the first time through the order. It certainly will not be an easy first inning but he has enough skill to limit the damage.

Ryan Pepiot gets the ball on the other side of this game and he has a minuscule MLB sample in his career. However, in that small sample, he has been excellent the first time through the order. The Marlins’ offense is not great, which should lead Pepiot to have success in the opening frame.

Bet: NRFI (-115)
