MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks & Predictions: Saturday (4/29)

Predicting what will happen in the first inning of a baseball game is a fun wager that is settled very quickly. Below are a couple of our favorites for Saturday's slate.

Saturday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

Let’s take a look at a couple of West Coast matchups for Saturday’s NRFI bets.

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres

If you haven’t heard, this game will be played in Mexico City. You may ask why that matters. It matters because Mexico City has an altitude of 7,503 feet. As you know, Coors Field is known to be the best hitter ballpark in the MLB because of its high altitude (5,195 ft). Mexico City is 41% higher than Coors Field.

This ballpark is like Coors Field but on PEDs. We should see a lot of runs tonight. Let’s hope it starts right out of the gate.

Giants’ pitcher Sean Manaea is 0-1 with a 6.61 ERA in his first three starts in 2023. He has a 2.76 HR/9, by far one of the worst in MLB and the highest of any pitcher on today’s slate. A high HR/9 mixed with a ballpark with an altitude over 7,000 is not a good mix.

Joe Musgrove is only making his second start of the season. The Giants are one of the worst teams against lefties but feast against righties. San Francisco Giants rank 2nd in wOBA, wRC+, and 3rd in ISO against RHP.

Bet: NRFI -170

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Over the last few years, the Cardinals have been one of the best teams against left-handed pitching, which still holds in 2023. The Cardinals rank in the top 5 in wOBA, wRC+, ISO, and SLG% against LHP. But here is the catch, the top of the Cardinals lineup (projected: Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson, Paul Goldschmidt) are a combined 13 for 72 with a .180 average against Clayton Kershaw.

On the flip side, the Dodgers are one of the worst teams against LHP. They rank in the bottom five on wOBA, wRC+, SLG%, and OBP%. Only Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have at least six plate appearances against Jordan Montgomery, and both are hitting under .200.

Montgomery is a perfect 5-0 on NRFI’s, while Kershaw is 2-3.

Bet: NRFI -120
