MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Prop Bet Odds, Picks & Predictions (5/24)

Tuesday’s Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs
Pitching matchup: Kodai Senga vs. Marcus Stroman
Kodai Senga has been among the few bright spots for the Mets’ pitching staff. Senga is 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 55 strikeouts. He has had a few rough starts, but overall, he has been putting together a great first season in the MLB. One area he can approve of is limiting the walks; through the first two months of the season, he has a BB/9 of 5.49, the 8th worst in the MLB. On the flip side, he has a strikeout rate of 29.4%, the 15th highest, ahead of guys like Shane McClanahan and Gerrit Cole.
Marcus Stroman is 3-4 with a 3.05 ERA thus far in 2023. He has only given up more than two earned runs in two of his ten starts this season, with an NRFI record of 8-2.
Bet: NRFI -160
San Francisco Giants vs. Minnesota Twins
Pitching matchup: Anthony DeSclafani vs. Joe Ryan
We are backing two pitchers who have succeeded with the NRFI in 2023. Anthony Desclafani is 7-2 in not allowing a run in the first inning, while Twins’ starter Joe Ryan is also 7-2, bringing their combined record to 14-4.
The Giants and the Twins have struggled against right-handed pitching this season, as they are around league average in wOBA and wRC+ but also have an extremely high strikeout rate. The Giants have the 5th highest K-rate (25%), while the Twins have the 2nd highest at 25.5%.
Another quick stat I like to look for when betting a NRFI is walk percentage. I do not like backing pitchers giving away free passes since it seems like it is usually that guy who comes around and scores and ruins our NRFI bet. DeSclafani and Ryan do a great job at limiting walks, as they have the 3rd and 5th lowest BB/9 of today’s slate.
