MLB Odds, Picks & Predictions: Dodgers vs. Mets (Wednesday)
If you thought Citi Field in Queens was rocking when the New York Mets went back tied 1-1 with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS, it should be an even crazier atmosphere on Wednesday as they are tied 1-1 with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. One thing for certain is that the weather is going to be a lot different in New York than it was in L.A., as temperatures are supposed to drop into the low 40s at night. How does that impact our best bet for this game?

Los Angeles Dodgers (-110) @ New York Mets (-106) | O/U 7.5 (-110/-110)
The Dodgers went with a bullpen game in Game 2, opting to move Walker Buehler, one of their only remaining healthy starting pitchers, back to this first game at Citi Field. Even though Los Angeles used five relievers to piece together the nine innings in Game 2, one could argue it did not use any of its best bullpen arms, especially since the Mets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning.
Even after cruising to a 9-0 lead in Game 1, Los Angeles has not had to use guys like Evan Phillips (.000 OBA in three appearances), Blake Treinen (0.00 ERA in three appearances), Michael Kopech (0.00 ERA in four appearances), or Alex Vesia (0.00 ERA) to this point. Those four are locked and loaded to throw a bulk of innings over the next three days, and will likely be used to back up Buehler, who allowed six runs in Game 3 of the NLDS. But all of those runs came in one inning, and he did a great job of giving the team length (five innings) and a shot to win despite being let down by his defense at times.
New York counters with Luis Severino, who has allowed three or more earned runs in five consecutive starts. Even if the Dodgers tag Severino for three runs, that still leaves us with 4.5 runs of flexibility to play with in backing the Under. However, weather is likely to play a big factor in killing a lot of fly balls and keeping the ball in the ballpark. In addition, Los Angeles has spent the last two weeks living and playing in sunny California between home games and road games in San Diego. It is fair to assume that the blistering cold will affect L.A.âs bats, which gives us confidence in backing Severino for a quality start.
Consider this a contrarian play, as the Over has cashed in eight consecutive games that the Dodgers have faced an NL East opponent, including each of the first two games of this NLCS.
MLB Pick: Under 7.5 (-110)
