Los Angeles Angels vs. Chicago White Sox

The Los Angeles Angels will give Jack Kochanowicz the ball for today’s game against the White Sox. Kochanowicz only faced 265 batters last season, but he held those batters to a .142 ISO and added 56.5% of ground balls with only 15.2% of fly balls allowed.

The right-hander only struck out 9.4% of batters and allowed 49.3% of hard contact, but he indeed showed he belonged in the Majors. That said, he’s taking on a White Sox lineup that struck out over 28% of the time last season against righties. I’d expect an improvement from Kochanowicz regarding strikeouts.

Additionally, the projected lineup hit a .243 wOBA against righties last season. The lineup also added only 6.2% of walks.

Meanwhile, the White Sox will go with Davis Martin. Martin struck out 21.3% of batters last season. However, he also walked 10.4% of batters and gave up a .327 wOBA. Beyond that, Martin gave up nearly 27% of fly balls and allowed 45.5% of hard contact.

Davis is in line to face an Angels lineup that hit a .165 ISO and wOBA of .329 against righties last season. The Angels struck out fewer times and walked more times than the White Sox’s projected lineup against righties.

Plus, there’s no better hitter in either lineup than Mike Trout. Trout socked a .357 ISO and wOBA of .394 against 112 righties last season.

Let’s back the Angels.

Pick: Angels Moneyline (-126)

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres will give newly acquired starting pitcher Nick Pivetta the ball for his first start with the club. Pivetta struck out nearly 29% of batters last season. He also walked just 5.9% of batters. Yet, Pivetta still allowed a .208 ISO and wOBA of .309, with nearly as many fly balls as ground balls induced.

Pivetta is set to take on a Braves lineup with five batters who hit at least a .170 ISO against righties last season. Jurickson Profar, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna and Jarred Kelenic all hit above-average against righties. Meanwhile, Pivetta allowed a .240 ISO and wOBA of .347 to other righties. Riley and Ozuna have terrific matchups and should add some power in tonight’s game.

On the other hand, the Braves will roll with AJ Smith-Shawver. He’s another righty who struggled against righties, allowing a .214 ISO and wOBA of .377 to 15 righties last season. That’s a small sample size, but it’s something to look out for.

Fernando Tatis Jr. should be one of four righties in the Padres lineup tonight (that’s with Manny Machado is out).

Both offenses should have solid nights at the plate. Let’s back the over.

Pick: Over 8.0 Runs (-105)
