San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Although Logan Webb has been terrific for the San Francisco Giants, he has a much more difficult matchup. With their projected lineup, the St. Louis Cardinals have hit a .209 ISO and wOBA of .349 against righties over the last 30 days. Theyâve got seven batters hitting an above-average ISO and six players hitting a wOBA of at least .309 against righties.
With Webbâs strikeout rate against righties down to 16.8%, the Cardinals should at least put the ball in play.
On the other hand, Sonny Gray will get the call for the Cardinals. Heâs a righty who has struck out more than 31% of batters this season. Gray has also held opponents to a .078 ISO and wOBA of .232 over the last 30 days.
Heâs been just as dominant as Webb, if not better, and will face a Giants lineup that has hit a .093 ISO and wOBA of .257 against righties over the last 30 days. The Giants have seven batters hitting an ISO of no better than .111 and six batters hitting a wOBA of .277 or worse against righties in the last month.
Sonny Gray and the Cardinals have the better matchup. Take them at home at -120.
MLB Pick: Cardinals (-120)
Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies
Kyle Freeland will make his return to the mound today for the Rockies. The left-hander has only struck out 10.2% of batters this season after facing 88 batters. Heâs also allowed a .212 ISO and wOBA of .468 to 76 righties this season.
While the Nationals donât have the most lethal lineup, Washington has hit very well in the first couple of games against Colorado at Coors Field. That should continue against Freeland, who rarely earns strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals will pitch Jake Irvin. The right-hander has been a pleasant surprise for the Nationals this season. Heâs held his last 114 batters to a .147 ISO and wOBA of .307. Heâs also induced over 49% of ground balls and has limited fly balls to below 17%. Thatâll surely help in Coors Field.
Additionally, Irvin has struck out 23.7% of batters in the last 30 days and has increased his seasonal average to 20.6% of strikeouts. Heâs also kept walks to 5.2% this season, which is why his wOBA is down to .298 on the season.
Irvin will face multiple duds in the Colorado lineup today. The Rockies have five batters hitting a wOBA of .293 or worse against righties. Theyâve also got four batters hitting an ISO of no better than .077. If anything, facing these batters will get him out of jams.
Letâs back the Nationals on the moneyline. Theyâll win the series today.
MLB Pick: Nationals (-132)
