Top MLB Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (6/9)

Today’s MLB slate is amazing. Not only are the Mets and Phillies playing in London to start the slate in the morning, but tonight’s game between the Yankees and Dodgers features two of the best pitchers in the game.

By the time you’re reading this, the Mets-Phillies game is either playing or finishing up. We won’t bet that one. But we’ll absolutely wager on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers.

Boston Red Sox @ Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox will send out Chris Flexen for today’s matchup against Boston. Flexen has allowed a .173 ISO and wOBA of .324, with only 37.2% of ground balls induced and 26.8% of line drives allowed.

He’s also given up more power to lefties, holding a .262 ISO. That’s ideal for the Red Sox, who have a bunch of powerful lefties in the lineup.

I know Rafael Devers is unlikely to be available today. However, the Red Sox still have Jarren Duran, Enmanuel Valdez, and David Hamilton, who have all shown some power against righties over the last 30 days. Ultimately, the Red Sox should still have more lefties in the lineup than righties today.

Meanwhile, we can make all the White Sox jokes out there. However, the projected lineup has hit a .173 ISO and wOBA of .325 against righties over the last 30 days. These aren’t elite numbers, but certainly not bad. After all, the White Sox have four batters hitting an ISO of at least .158 and six batters hitting a wOBA of at least .321.

They’ll face Zack Kelly of the Red Sox, who has walked 12.2% of batters with only 21.6% of strikeouts. He’s limited ISO and wOBA well this year. However, last season, he struggled badly against lefties, giving up a .167 ISO and wOBA of .368 with 25% of walks against 24 lefties.

I’ll take my chances with the Over. Maybe Rafael Devers contributes as a pinch hitter late in the game.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees

Everyone’s expecting it. But that doesn’t mean the Under won’t hit.

Tyler Glasnow will take the hill for the Dodgers. He’s a righty who has added nearly 35% of strikeouts to begin the season. In addition, Glasnow has held batters to a .148 ISO and wOBA of .245. He’s also walked just 6.5% of batters this season.

Yes, the Yankees are good against righties. However, Glasnow is a different kind of righty. He’s hard to make contact against, and the Yankees have seven batters who have struck out more than 20% of the time in the last 30 days against righties.

On the other hand, the Yankees will counter with Luis Gil. He’s putting up Jacob deGrom-like numbers right now. While his walk rate is still a little high this season, Gil has held opponents to a .090 ISO and wOBA of .217. He’s also struck out 31.5% of batters this season.

I know many of you will have the NBA Finals on. But tonight’s the night you’ll want to find an extra TV to watch this pitching duel.

Let’s take the Under 7.5 at +102.
