San Diego Padres vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The San Diego Padres will send out Dylan Cease against the Rays. We’ve seen a slight regression from Cease over the last few starts, but he’s still one of the best pitchers on today’s slate.
Cease has only struck out 22.1% of batters over the last 30 days, but he’s still struck out over 30% of batters this season. In addition, he’s also held 644 batters to a .146 ISO and wOBA of .277 this year.
While his wOBA has increased over the last month, Cease has earned more than 52% of ground balls and has limited fly balls and line drives to below 24%.
That said, he’ll take on a Rays lineup that has struck out 32.8% of the time against righties over the last 30 days. Tampa Bay’s projected lineup has also hit just a .142 ISO and wOBA of .248 against righties throughout the previous 30 days. Cease should find his putaway pitch more in today’s content.
Meanwhile, the Rays will roll with Ryan Pepiot. Pepiot is a very good right-handed pitcher for the Rays. However, the young star has allowed a .220 ISO and wOBA of .367 to his last 46 lefties.
San Diego has more lefties than righties in today’s lineup. In addition, those lefties have combined to hit a .214 ISO and wOBA of .383 against righties over the last month. The Padres should be able to scratch out enough runs to get by the Rays with Cease on the mound.
Pick: Padres (-135)
New York Mets vs. Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox will throw out their best starter, Garrett Crochet, but are still underdogs by a lot. Recently, the left-handed Crochet has struggled on the mound. He’s allowed a .356 ISO and wOBA of .434 to his last 64 batters. He’s also allowed 53.8% of hard contact with over 28% of line drives over the previous month.
New York’s lineup is typically hit or miss. However, this lineup has already produced against the White Sox in this series. Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, J.D. Martinez, and Harrison Bader have above-average ISO numbers against lefties in the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Mets will throw out Sean Manaea. He’s arguably been the Mets’ best starter this season. He’s struck out more than 30% of batters over the last 30 days and has held those same batters to a .262 wOBA.
Manaea is in line to pitch against a White Sox projected lineup that has combined to hit a .037 ISO and wOBA of .192 with 25.4% of strikeouts and 3.6% of walks.
I mean… this is historically bad. Grab the Mets at -175.
Pick: Mets (-175)
