Tuesday's Best MLB Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Yankees (-120) at Seattle Mariners (+100) | O/U 7 (-112/-108)
The Yankees are on their final road trip, heading to the West Coast. They are facing two struggling teams, and they need to hold onto this three-game lead in the American League East because they have a three-game series against Baltimore when they return home.
The pitching has been inconsistent throughout the season, but they have been much better recently and are second in ERA (2.25) since September 6. Luis Gil has been his usual self since returning from the IL. The Yankees have won his last two starts, and he's allowed one earned run in 11 innings.
It has been a frustrating season for the Mariners. At one point, they held a ten-game lead in the AL West but struggled and lost that lead to the Astros. They aren't in the playoffs, but they are still in contention, being 4.5 games back from the Astros and 2.5 from the final Wild Card spot.
It will all be on the pitching staff, which leads the league in ERA (3.50) because the offense has been one of the worst, as they are 24th in runs scored per game (4.1).
Bryan Woo is part of this stellar rotation and is coming off back-to-back wins, carrying a 3.09 ERA across those starts.
T-Mobile Park is a pitcher-friendly ballpark, and this could be a good pitching matchup. The Yankees making the cross country trek, along with a bad Mariners offense, should lead to little scoring.
Pick: Under 7 Total Runs (-108)
San Francisco Giants (-118) at Baltimore Orioles (-102) | O/U 8 (-102/-118)
The other team to pay attention to is the Orioles. As inconsistent as the Yankees have been, the same could be said about the Orioles. Neither the offense nor pitching staff has been necessarily bad, but neither has been great. The pitching has probably been the worse of the two, as they have a 4.29 ERA in the second half.
Albert Suarez has been a big surprise in his first MLB season since 2017, posting a 3.39 ERA.
Suarez has a little more incentive for this game because the Giants were the last team he played for. This was supposed to be a San Francisco team that made moves, but unfortunately, they did not work.
Some of them worked out, including Matt Olson, whom they extended. However, some did not, notably Jorge Soler, who was traded after 93 games.
Blake Snell was another one who looked bad at the start but has fared much better since. Through his first six starts, he had a 9.51 ERA and missed time with an injury. Since then he has pitched to a 1.45 ERA including throwing a no-hitter.
The problem with San Fransisco is the offense. Itâs been horrible. Theyâve scored three runs in four games, including three straight in which they were shut out.
Pick: Orioles Moneyline (-102)
