Tuesday's Best MLB Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Yankees (-135) at Texas Rangers (+114) | O/U 9 (-118/-102)
The Yankees continue to hold a tiny lead in the American League East, and this should be an exciting race till the last day. Although this is their third straight series against an under .500 team, they haven't played like it. They have lost four of their last six and lost two of three against Washington and St. Louis.
The pitching has been frustrating, especially with the game on Sunday; they were down 7-2 early. The Yankees' offense staged a comeback and tied the game, but they would allow seven more for a loss.
Carlos Rodon's inconsistency has plagued him during his Yankees' tenure, and he's coming off allowing five earned to the Nationals after previously allowing none to Colorado.
The Rangers will not repeat as champions. They were not able to play consistently, and it had to do with injuries. They were missing star players for most of the season, including Corey Seager and Max Scherzer, while Jacob deGrom has yet to take the mound.
Andrew Heaney has caught some bad luck. He's 4-13 but only carries a 3.95 ERA. Of the 13 losses, he's allowed three or fewer earned runs in nine of those starts.
We saw the Yankees’ bats explode in the heat of Texas, and the Rangers should also get some runs against a bad pitching staff.
Pick: Over 9 Total Runs (-118)
Cleveland Guardians (-120) at Kansas City Royals (+100) | O/U 8 (-108/-112)
This is the biggest series of the week because it has huge implications for the American League Central. The Guardians took the first game thanks to home runs by Lane Thomas and Josh Naylor and a fantastic outing from Gavin Williams. This was a rare win for the Guardians at Kauffman Stadium, just their second in five games.
Tanner Bibee has been their ace all season. He's leading the starting rotation in ERA (3.65), WAR (2.1), and strikeouts per nine (9.8). Hoever, he's had some mixed results against the Royals, and last week, he gave up five.
Kansas City needs this win because they have been struggling going into this series. They were just swept by the Astros, and they had fallen in the standings. At worst, they need to win this series if they want a realistic shot of winning the division.
Brady Singer was having a fantastic season, but August was his worst month, and he had a 5.53 ERA in five starts. His start against Cleveland wasn't memorable, and he only went 3.2 and allowed three total runs.
Bibee has been a solid road pitcher, and the Royals have hit a rough spot at the wrong time.
Pick: Guardians Moneyline (-120)
