Milwaukee Brewers vs. Houston Astros

The Houston Astros will begin today’s game with Spencer Arrighetti on the mound. Arrighetti has been fine against lefties. However, he’s allowed a .277 ISO and wOBA of .481 to his first 55 righties faced this season. In addition, he’s added just 21.8% of strikeouts and has walked 12.7% of righties this season.

Today, he’s in line to face a Brewers lineup that will have four right-handed batters. Those four righties, between William Contreras, Willy Adames, Joey Ortiz, and Jackson Chourio, have hit a .197 ISO and wOBA of .366 against righties throughout the year.

The Brewers match up really nicely against Houston’s rookie.

On the other hand, the Astros will take on Colin Rea of the Brewers. For one, the Astros have only hit a .156 ISO and wOBA of .333 with 8.4% of walks against righties this season with their projected lineup. That said, Rea has held teams to a .147 ISO and wOBA of .305. He doesn’t add many strikeouts, but the Astros don’t strike out much.

He’s added nearly 43% of ground balls and has kept walks down. Therefore, Rea has a much better matchup than Arrighetti. Let’s back the Brewers as the slight underdog at +110.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs

We’ve got another classic Pirates-Cubs matchup. The Pirates will pitch Mitch Keller for today’s game. Keller has struck out 26.4% of lefties and has held opponents to just 20% of fly balls this season.

The Cubs should have more lefties than righties in the lineup. In addition, those lefties have struck out 25.2% of the time against righties this season. That’s a great matchup for Keller, as he’s loaded up on strikeouts against lefties this year.

On the other hand, Jameson Taillon will take the hill for the Cubs. The right-hander has faced 117 batters and has only added 15.4% of strikeouts.

Beyond that, he’s allowed a .255 ISO and wOBA of .392 to his first 54 lefties. He’s also walked 13% of lefties this season.

The Pirates might not have the most consistent offense. However, the lefties in the lineup have still hit a .158 ISO. That’s above average against right-handed pitching.

That said, the Pirates have more potential against Taillon. Keller hasn’t blown up against either side of the plate like Taillon. Keller has also struck out way more batters and has more put-out potential.

Let’s grab the Pirates at +106. If one underdog wins today, we’ll profit.

MLB Pick: Pirates ML (+106)
