Tuesday's Best MLB Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Milwaukee Brewers (-142) at Miami Marlins (+120) | O/U 8 (-105/-115)
Don't expect the Marlins to be a contender this season, even though they have been playing well recently. After suffering a five-game losing streak, they have won five of their last seven, although it's been against the Tigers and the Mets. It's been an inconsistent season for Trevor Rogers; he's had two horrendous starts in May by allowing 12 earned in 5.2 innings, but he got his first win of the year, and Miami got their first victory in a Rogers start in eight tries.
Brewers have hit a rough patch as they've dropped the first game of this series and have lost five of their last eight. The pitching has struggled to allow 4.5 runs per game during this eight-game stretch. They only allowed three on Monday, which should have been enough for that offense, but they could only get two runs in the effort. Great start to the career of Robert Gasser by grabbing wins in both starts. He's a guy who won't overpower his opponents, but he'll keep it away from his power zone.
Miami has a league-worst 34.0% chase rate, so they could have trouble against Gasser and his ability to get hitters to chase out of the zone.
MLB Pick: Brewers Moneyline (-142)
Texas Rangers (+145) at Philadelphia Phillies (-175) | O/U 8 (-115/-105)
For the Phillies, this series will be a true test of if they are for real. Their schedule has been favorable to start the season as they've played only three games against a team above .500 and are 1-2 in those games. While the Rangers are at .500, this will be the best opponent winning percentage they've seen since the Reds over a month ago. Philadelphia will have their own Ranger, Suarez to be exact, and he is having a Cy Young-like season with a league-leading eight wins, a 0.76 WHIP, and his 1.87 ERA is second in the league.
It's been a brutal stretch for the champs as they have dropped seven of their last nine contests. They were recently swept in Colorado by the NL's worst team, the Rockies, and dropped two of three at home against the Angels. Jon Gray gets the ball, and he's on one of the best stretches of his career with a 2.08 ERA, but he's only factored in three decisions out of ten.
Some of Grayâs concerning stats are the 44.0% hard-hit rate, which is in the 19th percentile, and 8.1 hits per nine. Philly is fourth in hits per game and fifth in hard hit percentage, with Jon Gray having a 9.00 ERA in Citizen Bank Park.
MLB Pick: Phillies -1.5 (+124)
