MLB Player Prop Bet Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (4/15)

There are just seven games on today’s MLB slate to choose from. Still, we are confident we have identified three solid player prop bets amid this small slate and are looking to continue the momentum of a profitable 2-1 day yesterday.

Saturday’s Best MLB Player Prop Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings)
YTD: 17-20-1 (-0.51 units)

Yusei Kikuchi Over 2.5 earned runs allowed vs. Yankees

Toronto’s Yusei Kikuchi ranks in the 12th percentile or worse in average exit velocity, hard-hit percentage, and xSLG. This is after coming off a year where he ranked in the bottom one percent in the first two categories and barrel rate. That is problematic when facing a Rays lineup that leads the majors in nearly every offensive category, including OPS, home runs, and batting average. Kikuchi is on pace for back-to-back seasons with a 1.500 WHIP, and his strikeout percentage (7.7%) is on pace to be his lowest since his rookie year in 2019. In addition, his troubling 7.89 FIP suggests he should be in for a rough outing against the hottest team in baseball.

Bet: Kikuchi Over 2.5 earned runs allowed (-115 at DraftKings

Justin Turner Over 1.5 total bases vs. Angels

Justin Turner and Angels lefty Tyler Anderson have much familiarity dating back to Turner’s time with the Dodgers and Anderson’s days in the NL West with the Rockies and Giants. As a result, no hitter on today’s slate has faced their opposing pitcher more times than Turner, who has had 34 career at-bats against Anderson. Despite that large sample size, Turner has gotten the better of Anderson on many occasions, with a slash line of .500/.538/.882. But our reasons for liking Turner to replicate that success again today mostly hinge on his two strikeouts in those 34 at-bats and the fact that seven of his 17 hits have gone for extra bases.

With Turner’s odds of getting a hit being too steep (-270), we are opting for more value with his total bases prop. Turner cashed the Over on this prop just twice in the six home games entering Friday but had done so in each of his previous two games, and a solid end to the Tampa Bay series saw his average raise 66 points over the final three games.

Bet: Turner Over 1.5 total bases (+115 at DraftKings)

Javier Baez Under 0.5 hits vs. Giants

Baez has struggled mightily this season, entering Friday with a slash line of .122/.182/.146 and just one extra-base hit in 44 plate appearances. Things went from bad to worse when he was benched earlier this week after a baserunning blunder, and he has now hit in the sixth spot in the lineup in the last couple of games.

To make matters worse, Baez has had minimal success against today’s opposing pitcher. He is 2-for-13 in his career against Giants righty Anthony DeSclafani, and while both went for extra bases, he has also struck out four times in that span. With Baez moved down in the batting order, it makes even more sense to back this Under, given that he is not likely to come to the plate as much. We are hoping to get plus-money odds with this wager when they surface at DraftKings.

Bet: Baez Under 0.5 hits (OFF at DraftKings)
