MLB Player Prop Bet Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (4/2)

The MLB season is underway and many of the opening series are being wrapped up today after we've seen a handful of games to begin the 2023 season. We are seeing some of the new rules in action and how they are affecting the MLB that we've always known. Is the pitch clock causing some trouble for pitchers? We've seen some high-scoring games in Boston in addition to the Rangers scoring 16 runs last night. It will be interesting to see this trend play out for the rest of the season.

Also, take a look at our other best bets for Sunday:

Alex Verdugo Over 0.5 runs scored vs. Orioles

The Red Sox and Orioles will look to wrap up their opening series of 2023 on Sunday as the Red Sox host the Orioles at Fenway this afternoon. We've seen two crazy games to start off the series, with both games coming down to the final pitch and a total of 36 runs being scored. This is somewhat expected, as both teams will struggle with pitching in 2023. I expect this to continue today with Cole Irvin and Tanner Houck on the mound to start this game. Although Verdugo draws the Lefty on Lefty matchup, I don't expect Irvin to last longer than 4-5 innings. This should give Verdugo some at-bats against the Orioles bullpen. I like Verdugo to cross the plate once again this series as he bats out of the leadoff spot for the Red Sox.

Bet: Alex Verdugo Over 0.5 runs scored (+155 at DraftKings)

Chris Bassitt to record a win vs. the Cardinals

Chris Bassitt was one of the Blue Jays big free agency pick-ups for 2023. He's coming over from the New York Mets, where he is coming off of a great season in 2022, earning the most wins of his career at 15-9 and recording the most strikeouts of his career at 167. I like Bassitt's chances to have a strong start in his debut for his new ball club and record a win in St. Louis to close out this series. Bassitt visited St. Louis in May 2022 while he was with the Mets, giving up 2 hits over 6 shut out innings. I like Bassitt here over his counterpart, Jordan Montgomery, and he also draws some good Righty on Righty matchups against the Cardinals meat of the order (Goldschmidt, Arenado, Walker, O'Neill). At +200, I'm willing to ride Bassitt here for his first win as a Blue Jay.

Bet: Chris Bassitt to record a win vs. Blue Jays (+200 at DraftKings)

George Springer Over 0.5 Runs Scored against the Cardinals

We discussed the defensive side of this game in the Bassitt section, and now we are going to shift to the offensive side of the same game. After an abysmal offensive performance on Saturday (3 hits and 1 run scored), I expect the Blue Jays lineup as a whole to bounce back here against Jordan Montgomery. Despite drawing 7 walks in the first 5 innings, the Blue Jays were unable to record a hit vs starter Jack Flaherty. Springer notably went 0-5 on the day, which is very rare for the speedy leadoff hitter. This lineup is too good to have 1 run performances and I expect them to bounce back on Sunday with a better matchup. Springer, Bichette, Guerrero Jr., and Chapman will take advantage of a Right on Lefty matchup after the four combined for only one hit on Saturday. Look for the Blue Jays to control this game and for Springer to cross the plate today.

Bet: George Springer Over 0.5 runs scored against the Cardinals (+100 at DraftKings)
