(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Joe Ryan to record a win (+135)
Minnesota Twins righty Joe Ryan has dominated the Cleveland Guardians in his young career, pitching to a 2.05 ERA in eight career starts, and limiting current Guardians hitters to a .213/.245/.339 slash line in 94 combined at-bats. Three of Cleveland’s most feared hitters (Josh Naylor, Andres Gimenez, and Jose Ramirez) each have two career extra-base hits off Ryan, but those have come in 51 combined at-bats, and none of those hitters are batting better than .211 or have a better than .250 OBP against Ryan.
The Under for Ryan’s 2.5 earned runs is juiced heavily to -175, so oddsmakers like his chances of turning in a quality start. We expect a bounce-back offensively for Minnesota’s offense when facing Carlos Carrasco, which will provide Ryan with enough run support to scratch out a victory.

Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 total bases (+125)
In 2022, Paul Goldschmidt was arguably the best hitter in baseball against left-handed pitching, slashing .411/.515/.813 with a .549 wOBA against southpaws. Though his wOBA lowered to .352 against left-handed pitching last year, he still batted a respectable .295 with a .375 BABIP and a .154 ISO. He faces Miami Marlins southpaw Trevor Rogers, who will likely take time to acclimate back to full strength after injuries limited him to just 18 innings pitched last season. Though Rogers induced five whiffs on 10 swings on his fastball in his first start, he was still roughed up for four earned runs over five innings, as he labored through 97 pitches. We are jumping at the opportunity to back Goldschmidt at plus-money odds for him to finish with two or more total bases, as he is equally likely to hit this Over with multiple hits as he is with one extra-base hit.
Ryan Mountcastle Over 0.5 runs scored (+110)
No one projects to score more runs in the Baltimore Orioles lineup based on FantasyPros’ daily projections than Ryan Mountcastle. Mountcastle is one of three Orioles hitters with three-plus runs scored this season, and is one of five with an OPS of .875 or better. He has plenty of protection in a lineup that projects to be one of the highest scoring offenses in the league, and we like his chances of crossing the plate at least once against Pittsburgh Pirates starter Bailey Falter, who allowed six earned runs in his first start while pitching to a 10.98 FIP and 2.000 WHIP. Falter’s FIP has increased for three consecutive seasons, and he has averaged 7.1 or fewer strikeouts per innings each of the last three seasons. It may not be long until rookie Paul Skenes takes over Falter’s starting spot in the rotation, and the Orioles offense will do everything in their power to force the Pirates front office to question trotting him out there every five days.
