MLB Player Prop Bet Odds & Picks: Thursday (4/25)

Thursday is a popular getaway day for several Major League Baseball teams, and one third of the teams in the league have an off day today. Of the 10 games on tap, a whopping nine of them are played in the afternoon window, so bettors should be sure to get their wagers in early.

Read on for our Top MLB Player Prop Bets for Thursday.

Thursday's Best MLB Player Prop Bets

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Luis Castillo to record a win (+145)

Seattle Mariners righty Luis Castillo started the season with losses in each of his first four starts, largely because his offense totaled just 10 runs of support for him in that span. But Castillo has also tightened things up over the last two weeks, and has now thrown consecutive quality starts, while coming off his best outing of the season, allowing two hits over seven scoreless innings at Coors Field last Saturday.

Castillo has recorded nine strikeouts in back-to-back starts, and has gotten his command under much better control, allowing one walk in his last 13 innings and one home run in his previous 18. His 53 whiffs are the second-most among all starting pitchers over their last 300 pitches thrown, per Jon Anderson, and 11 of his 19 whiffs (on 96 pitches) were on his fastball. His 31% CSW is a good sign entering a matchup against the Texas Rangers, and the Mariners should provide Castillo with plenty of run support, as current Mariners are slashing a combined .276/.358/.546 in 76 at-bats against Rangers southpaw Andrew Heaney. Heaney ranks in the bottom fourth of the league in barrels and ground ball rate, and his strikeout rate has dropped from a career-high 35.5% in 2022 to 19% (second-lowest of his career) this year.

Seattle entered yesterday having cashed the first five innings moneyline in 24 of its last 40 road games (+12.89 units/24% ROI), so we expect it to build a lead for Castillo early and for the bullpen to hold on late.

Edouard Julien Over 0.5 runs (-125

Minnesota Twins second baseman Edouard Julien entered Wednesday with three runs scored in the first two games of their current series with the Chicago White Sox, and at least one run scored in five of the previous 10 games. Julien has a great chance of plating himself in this game, as four of his five home runs have come against right-handed pitching. While he has a .675 OPS against righties compared to a .975 OPS against southpaws, he should find his way on base plenty against Michael Soroka, who has a team-worst 1.79 WHIP among all starting pitchers, and who has allowed a .439 OBP to left-handed hitters compared to a .345 OBP to righties. Julien also hits in front of sluggers like Max Kepler, who is one of two current Twins hitters that have ever faced Soroka and even homered off him. Thus, we are backing the generous odds for Julien to score at least one run tonight, especially since Minnesota had cashed its team total Over in 44 of its last 77 games entering Wednesday (+13.50 units/15% ROI).

Juan Soto Over 0.5 RBIs (+200

Juan Soto entered Wednesday responsible for 20 of the New York Yankees’ 95 RBIs, and no other teammate had more than 14 runs batted in. He has had good career success against Oakland Athletics southpaw Alex Wood, with three hits in 13 career at-bats, and two of those going for home runs. Soto will look to parlay his .978 OPS against Wood into a means for RBIs on consecutive days, as he snapped a season-long four-game RBI-less drought with two RBIs and a home run last night. Considering Oakland’s pitching staff ranks 17th in ERA (4.01) and 25th in xFIP, we are getting great odds with one of the best hitters in the game to drive in at least one run.
