MLB Player Prop Bet Odds & Picks: Thursday (4/4)

The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets have had their last two games postponed due to rain, and today’s interleague doubleheader brings today’s small MLB slate to just six games. However, that still gives us plenty of opportunities to find a couple MLB player props that we like.

Read on for our Top MLB Player Prop Bets for Thursday.

Pablo Lopez Under 1.5 earned runs (+115)

Minnesota Twins ace Pablo Lopez took the first step in proving he is deserving of consideration for the AL Cy Young Award this season after striking out seven and allowing just one earned runs in seven innings on Opening Day. Lopez has been an innings eater with more than 15.5 outs recorded in 25 of his last 31 starts, and his ability to induce swings and misses has increased mightily over the last few years, as he is coming off a 10.86 K/9 season last year.

Lopez has recorded at least six strikeouts in 17 of his last 21 home starts, and faces a Cleveland Guardians lineup that he has struggled with in the past, allowing a combined .375/.412/.535 slash line in 64 combined at-bats to current Guardians hitters. However, we are buying Lopez’s career resurgence, and look for him to silence Cleveland’s bats in what should be a chilly day in Minnesota.

Seth Lugo to record a win (+115

The Kansas City Royals were not done any favors in yesterday’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, as the game that was originally scheduled for the early afternoon was delayed five hours. And while the Chicago White Sox have a bit of a scheduling edge in this matchup having been rained out yesterday, they project as one of the worst two teams in the American League this season, while the Royals look to vastly improve from last year’s 56-win season.

Offseason acquisition Seth Lugo left his first start with a 1-0 lead after six scoreless innings, and he allowed just three baserunners in all. Lugo had a solid year with the Padres last season, going 8-7 with a 3.57 ERA and an OBA of .249, as he finished with career highs in starts, wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. He became the first Royals pitcher with six or more scoreless innings in his team debut since May 2017, and if he pitches even a fraction as well as he did last week, his offense should provide him with plenty of run support to earn a victory over Michael Soroka, who induced just three whiffs on 29 swings in his first start.
