Francisco Lindor Under 0.5 hits (+150)
New York Mets fans are quickly losing patience with one of their highest paid sluggers, as Francisco Lindor entered the week batting a paltry .129 with an even worse .127 BABIP. The crazy thing about Lindor is that his 9.7% strikeout rate is on pace to be the best of his career, and his .326 xwOBA is aligned with similar numbers from past years, so optimists will say it is only a matter of time before Lindor gets going. However, pessimists will point to the fact that he is facing Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Jared Jones, whose 25 strikeouts are tied for the eighth most of any pitcher through their first three career games, per Baseball Reference. In addition, MLBâs Sarah Langs reported that Jonesâ 58 swings and misses are the most by a pitcher through three career starts in the pitch tracking era (since 2008), which does not bode well for Lindorâs chances of offensive success despite his minuscule strikeout rate.
Brady Singer to record a win (-125)
Are the Chicago White Sox destined to break the record for most losses in a season in the modern era, currently held by the 1962 New York Mets? That Mets team won 25% of their games and had 120 losses, but the White Sox entered the week with a .133 winning percentage (2-13), and their 2-12 start matched their worst 14-game start in franchise history (and worst since 1968).
The White Sox entered the season with one true feared hitter, Luis Robert, but even he is now possibly out until the All-Star Break. Without Robert or Eloy Jimenez, the White Sox are slashing .200/.273/.310, and have been held to three or fewer runs in 10 of their last 13 games. That paves the way for Kansas City Royals righty Brady Singer to earn his third win in four starts, as the team has outscored opponents 26-4 in his three outings. Singer entered the week ranked fourth in ERA (0.98) and ninth in WHIP (0.76). His 3.69 FIP is concerning for a pitcher whose ERA is so low, but he has an outstanding .182 BABIP, is inducing ground balls at a 65% rate, and MLB Stats highlighted how untouchable his slider has been.
Christian Walker Over 0.5 RBIs (+110)
We really had our sights set on Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Jace Peterson to go over his RBI mark in this game despite him entering the week with just one hit in 16 at-bats and just one RBI on the season, as he has absolutely owned Chicago Cubs righty Kyle Hendricks in his career. Peterson has slashed .450/.522/1.000 in 20 career at-bats, with six of his nine hits in that span going for extra bases. But with Peterson not being an everyday player, we turn to Christian Walker, who has four hits in 12 at-bats against Hendricks, which has resulted in a .833 OPS. And while Hendricksâ xERA (7.95) has been much better than his actual ERA (12.08) to this point, he has still allowed a troubling .525 wOBA and a .600 xSLG.
The Diamondbacks entered the week ranked in the top ten in BABIP and the top 13 in wRC+ in home games this season, while ranking tied for seventh in most home runs in their home ballpark. They should once again find offensive success against Hendricks, and Walker is an excellent value to play to add to that success, as he is third on the team with 11 RBIs and is due to break out of a five-game RBI-less drought.
