Top 5 MLB Player Prop Bets, Odds, & Picks: Wednesday, August 24 (2022)

We have a glorious slate of games on throughout the day, and I’ve got my top five player props ready to roll so that you can bolster your card with some extra winners. So let’s find out who they are and how we’re betting them.

C.J. Cron Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110)

Texas Rangers vs. Colorado Rockies 3:10 pm ET

The Rockies mash left-handed pitching, as they have the highest team batting average against lefties in the majors. One man who is a big part of that is C.J. Cron. Today, Cron will get a majority of his hacks against Martin Perez, who he has hit very well over the course of his career. Cron is hitting .318 with three extra-base hits in 22 at-bats against Perez. His excellent splits and history against Perez give him a great shot to pick up extra bases today.

Blake Snell Over 1.5 Walks (-135)

Cleveland Guardians vs. San Diego Padres 4:10 pm ET

The Guardians are a very disciplined team, as they enter this afternoon’s matchup with the lowest team strikeout rate in the majors. That is not good news for Blake Snell, who has shown to have command issues. Walks have been an issue for Snell, as his walk rate is amongst the bottom 20% of qualified pitchers. There is tremendous value in this total, as he has implied odds of -325 to go over again this afternoon.

Shane McClanahan Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-130)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Tampa Bay Rays 7:10 pm ET

McClanahan’s strikeout numbers have dipped over his last few outings, but all that has done is create extreme value on his total for this start. The lefty has been lethal this season, as he comes in boasting a strikeout rate in the top 7% of all qualified pitchers.

His matchup for this outing gives McClanahan double-digit upside. Additionally, Los Angeles has the highest team strikeout rate in the majors. Lastly, just to show that this number is too low, McClanahan has implied odds of -360 to go over his total this evening.

Alex Verdugo Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox 7:10 pm ET

Jose Berrios has been a pinball machine this season, as he ranks in the bottom 10% in hard-hit rate, xBA, and barrel rate. Today, he’ll face a player who has hit him quite well in the past. Alex Verdugo is hitting .455 against Berrios in his career with one homer. While Verdugo is not typically an extra-base threat, he has the ablity to rack up multiple hits off Berrios, as the market already expects him to get one hit. At plus odds, his chances of racking up bases are higher than even money.

Zac Gallen Under 4.5 Hits Allowed (+125)

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Kansas City Royals 8:10 pm ET

The Royals have been a vastly different club in the second half. They are 20th in team batting average and have the sixth-highest strikeout rate since the All-Star break. Those numbers are due to trading away Andrew Benintendi and Whit Merrifield, with their replacements being free-swinging rookies. Well, tonight, they’ll face Zac Gallen, who has been stingy this season. Opposing teams have had four hits or less in 60.9% of his starts. That gives us -155 implied odds that he’ll hold the Royals under here, which is substantial value on this price.
