Top 4 MLB Player Props Odds & Picks for Saturday, August 13 (2022)

Happy Saturday, everyone! We have a stacked 16-game schedule in Major League Baseball today. Action gets underway at 1:10 p.m. ET with the Braves looking for their second straight win over the Marlins. The divisional foes will play twice today, hence the extra game on the slate. Other notable matchups include a battle for first place in the N.L. Central between the Brewers and Cardinals, the slumping Yankees taking on the Red Sox at Fenway, and the red-hot Phillies squaring off against the Mets.

There are plenty of options on today’s board, but I’ve narrowed in on these four player props for today’s action.

Shane McClanahan O/U 7.5 Strikeouts

McClanahan is putting together a fantastic season for the Rays but has run into some trouble recently. The southpaw has given up a combined nine earned runs over his last two starts, spanning just 10.2 innings. However, he still enters at 10-5 on the year with a 2.24 ERA (4th) and 0.83 WHIP (1st). His hat is still very much in the ring to bring home the Cy Young award this season.

While I’m still high on McClanahan this year, I think we should fade him while he’s struggling. He hasn’t cleared 7.5 punchouts in four consecutive outings. One of those starts was against the Orioles, who struck out seven times in 7.0 innings. We may tiptoe the line in this divisional clash, but I think it’s worth a shot to take the under on McClanahan’s strikeout total. The first pitch in this one is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET from the Trop.

Bet: Shane McClanahan Under 7.5 Strikeouts (-115 via DraftKings)

Manny Machado O/U 1.5 Total Bases

The focus is on Juan Soto this weekend as the young superstar makes his return to the nation’s capital for the first time since leaving the Nats two weeks ago. Oh, and Fernando Tatis Jr. is stealing some of the spotlight with his recent 80-game suspension due to PEDs.

But I want to lock in on Manny Machado, who has gone 7-15 (.467) against Washington’s starting pitcher, Anibal Sanchez. The star infielder has launched three home runs and hit a double against Sanchez.

Furthermore, Sanchez has been horrific in five starts this year. The right-hander is 0-5 with a 7.56 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 25.0 innings of work. Let’s ride with Machado’s over on total bases in this N.L. clash scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Bet: Manny Machado Over 1.5 Total Bases (-135 via DraftKings)

Yoan Moncada O/U 1.5 Total Bases

To put it bluntly, Yoan Moncada has been the biggest disappointment of a hitter that I think I’ve seen this year. The 27-year-old is hitting just .197 with a .578 OPS and six home runs. Yikes.

He’ll face Matt Manning today from the Detroit Tigers. The right-hander has made just four starts this year due to a shoulder injury but comes in at 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA, and 1.10 WHIP over 20.0 innings pitched. He’s coming off of a 7.0-inning scoreless outing against the Rays on Sunday. Manning allowed just four hits and three walks in the no-decision effort.

I’m going to take the under on Moncada’s total bases today, considering he’s 0-6 (.000) against Manning. Moncada does not have a multi-hit game this month (12 games), has just two extra-base hits, and is hitting .167 (7-42) over the time frame. Once again, yikes from a guy who was supposed to supply the power for a popular preseason World Series pick in the White Sox. The first pitch for this game is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET from Guaranteed Rate Field.

Bet: Yoan Moncada Under 1.5 Total Bases (-170 via DraftKings)

Corbin Burnes O/U 7.5 Strikeouts

Burnes may be well on his way to winning back-to-back Cy Youngs this year. The right-hander comes into tonight’s game at 8-5 with a 2.45 ERA (6th) and 0.93 WHIP (4th) over 22 starts.

He has dominated the Cardinals this season in two starts. Burnes has thrown a combined 14.0 innings against the Red Birds and held them scoreless while allowing just four hits (.085 average) and three walks. The 27-year-old has collected 21 strikeouts, posting 10 punchouts in the first game and 11 in the second. 7.5 seems way too low considering the form that Burns is in. Let’s ride with the over on his strikeout total in this divisional matchup set for 7:15 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium.

Bet: Corbin Burnes Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+114 via FanDuel)
