Saturday’s Best Player to Hit a Home Run Bets

Nolan Gorman (+330) & Nolan Arenado (+370)

The Chicago Cubs are starting Michael Fulmer, so early indications show that this will be a bullpen game for the Cubbies. Early in his career, Fulmer was a full-time starter with the Detroit Tigers, but this will be his first start since 2021. 

In 2023 Fulmer has a 4.43 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while giving up five home runs in 43 appearances.

The Cubs bullpen has been steady in 2023, ranking in the top 3rd in most pitching categories. They have an HR/9 of 1.08, the 8th lowest, a BABIP of .289 (10th lowest), and an HR/FB rate of 11.7% (8th lowest). Today they will be asked to manage a heavier workload, so let’s see if the Cardinals can take advantage, especially will the winds blowing out to right field this afternoon. 

Both Gorman and Arenado have come out of the All-Star break with a pep in their step. Nolan Gorman leads the team in batting (.346) and is tied with Arenado in HRs (2) since the break. 

Justin Turner (+500) & Rafael Devers (+300)

While Max Scherzer has been good, not great for the Mets in 2023, he has been awful on the road.

Scherzer’s ERA at home is 2.36, but it jumps up to 4.96 away from New York. His HR/9 at Citi Field is .79 but goes to 2.29 elsewhere, and 15 of the 18 HRs he has allowed have also been as the visiting team. The right-hander has started 11 games and has allowed an HR in all but two, and has allowed eight HRs over his last five starts on the road.

Justin Turner and Rafael Devers have been on fire over the past six games. The teammates are hitting over .300 since the All-Star break and have five home runs combined.

Justin Turner seems to have Scherzer’s number; Tuner is 6 for 15 with four HRs over his career against the Mets’ starting pitcher.

Let’s look for The Red Sox to take advantage of Scherzer’s road woes and put on a show for the hometown crowd!
