Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres
Don’t expect much offense in today’s early game.
Blake Snell has had a 3.53 xFIP over the last 30 days. He’s struck out 33.3% of batters while walking 13%. His command can be off sometimes. If he starts to allow runners on base, he likely won’t be able to go deep enough to earn seven strikeouts.
But the Phillies’ projected lineup has struck out 25.9% of the time against lefties over the last 30 days. Only Bryce Harper has an above-average ISO against lefties over the last month.
On the other hand, Aaron Nola has had a 2.39 xFIP over the last 30 days. He’s struck out over 30% of batters while only walking 4.9%. Nola is going to be more consistent than Snell. He’s allowing over 26% of line drives when balls are batted into play. But the Padres need to put the ball in play first.
San Diego, like Philadelphia, has struck out 25.5% of the time against righties over the last 30 days using its projected lineup.
Snell and Nola should both end up holding it down. If each pitcher throws a quality start, they’ll earn the over on their strikeouts and keep the total under.
