MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Monday, August 22 (2022)

Let’s start a new week and the final full week of August. There are still some tight divisional races and a few teams that are contenders for a Wild Card spot. Today we’ll feature two teams in a close race to win their division, and with the new playoff format, claiming your division is more important than ever.

New York Mets vs. New York Yankees

  • Leg 1: Mets ML (-172)
  • Leg 2: Max Scherzer Over 7.5 strikeouts (+102)
  • Leg 3: Mark Canha to record 2+ bases (+160)

As the Mets pitching staff returns to full health, we see them play as well as they did earlier in the season.

Max Scherzer returned from missing nearly two months and is back to his typical. Since his return, he’s 4-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 11.4 strikeouts per nine. One of those starts was against the Yankees, where he when seven shutout innings in an eventual Mets win.

The Yanks continue to struggle as a whole, especially on offense, and Mad Max should have another excellent performance tonight.

After an initial bad start, Domingo German had done much better with a 3.20 ERA in five starts. He’s already seen the Mets this season, going 4.2 and allowing two earned and seven strikeouts.

With German pitching better, it’s still hard to trust the Yankees lineup to give him any run support against Scherzer.

Chicago Cubs vs. St.  Louis Cardinals

  • Leg 1: Cardinals -1.5 (-104)
  • Leg 2: Albert Pujols to record an RBI (+135)
  • Leg 3:Paul Goldschmidt to record 2+ bases (-105)

St. Louis has hit a switch, and this team has come alive. They were a playoff contender throughout the season, but they’ve been on fire in August, going 15-3 while leading the league and every offensive category.

The Cards acquired Jordan Montgomery during the deadline, and he’s played a significant role right away. He’s been untouchable, going 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA and hitters batting .203. Monty has already seen the Cubs this year with the Yankees and went seven innings in a win and should come away with another excellent performance.

Drew Smyly has pitched much better this month, going 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA in three starts, but those were against bottom-tier teams (Reds, Marlins, and Nationals). If you want to gauge where he’s at going against the hot offense of St. Louis, you have to look at his starts in July against the Dodgers, Giants, Mets, and Phillies, where he had a 6.06 ERA, and the Cubs went 1-3.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Leg 1:  Dodgers -1.5 (-118)
  • Leg 2: Julio Urias Over 6.5  strikeouts (-140)
  • Leg 3: Max Muncy to record a hit (-155)
  • Leg 4: Eric Lauer Under 5.5 strikeouts (-136)

Julio Urias should get some Cy Young votes as he’s having another fantastic season. He’s in the middle of his best stretch of the year as he’s 6-0 with a 0.95 ERA in six starts. He’ll face Milwaukee in back-to-back starts and threw five shutout innings last week.

The Brewers’ lineup has been very streaky all season and relies on their power, but they’ve been abysmal in August, batting just .199, and as a result, they’ve lost their lead in the NL Central.

Eric Lauer had a great start last week against the Dodgers, allowing just two earned, but he would get no run support and suffer the 2-1 loss. While I’m confident in the Brewers’ pitching staff, you can trust the lineup right now.
