MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Monday, August 8 (2022)

Let’s get into a new week of baseball. The Monday slate is always smaller, but there are still some interesting matchups to take a look at, including a rematch from last week of two possible playoffs teams.

MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Monday

New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners

  • Leg 1: Under 7.5 (-102)
  • Leg 2: Jameson Taillon under 4.5 strikeouts (+108)
  • Leg 3: Josh Donaldson to record a hit (-155)

The Mariners and Yankees will square off in Seattle after the Mariners took two of three in New York last week. The Yankees are on a tough run as people are questioning whether they’re the real deal. They started the season 49-16, but they’ve crashed in the second part of the season, going 21-23 since.

Logan Gilbert had a rocky start against the Yankees, going 5.1 innings, allowing six earned and four walks. The bullpen was the real hero in that game as they shut down the Yanks, allowing the  Mariners to get the comeback win. Before that start, Gilbert pitched well with a 3.18 ERA in five previous starts.

Jameson Taillon was on the opposing side against Gilbert, and he was the better starter, allowing five earned, but the bullpen gave up the lead and was left with the decision. Like Gilbert, he’s been on a good run as he’s allowed three earned in the previous 14.2 innings.

We saw each starter give up the long ball with five between them at the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. That’s not going to happen at T-Mobile Park. In fact, it’s one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the league, so expect a lower-scoring game.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics

  • Leg 1: Under 7.5 (-110)
  • Leg 2: Cole Irvin over 4.5 strikeouts (-102)
  • Leg 3: Jose Suarez under 4.5 strikeouts (-116)

The Athletics shipped some more players off at the trade deadline, including part of the starting rotation. One pitcher they kept is Cole Irvin, and he’s on a great run.

Over his last six starts, he has a 2.03 ERA, opposing batters are hitting .176, and after the A’s lost in eight straight of his starts, he’s 4-2. He’s coming off the previous start against the Angels where he allowed just two earned. Unfortunately, he did not receive any run support and took the loss, and it’s something he’s used to as he gets just 2.87 runs per game.

Jose Suarez has pitched back-to-back shutouts for the first time this year. One of those was against the A’s as the opposing pitcher against Irvin as he earned the win.

One thing not to expect from him is a long outing because even if he’s pitching well, he usually gets the hook, as he’s made it through the sixth inning just once this season.

Both lineups are not hitting well right now as the Angels have scored four or more runs in three of their last eight games while Oakland has done it in two of their previous seven. Expect the same low-scoring matchup.

Washington Nationals vs. Chicago Cubs

  • Leg 1: Over 8 (-104)
  • Leg 2: Willson Contreras to record 2+ total bases (+115)
  • Leg 3: Keegan Thompson  under 5.5 strikeouts (-132)

Anibal Sanchez’s second stint with the Nationals has not been going well. He’s coming in today losing all four of his starts with an ERA of 7.65 and a 1.50 WHIP.

Keegan Thompson will go for the Cubs and has been solid since moving into the starting rotation. On his better starts, he can locate the fastball, get the cutter to move into the corner, and the curveball to stay low, but he struggles when he doesn’t have control.

You can tell he’ll have a rough day when he knows he can’t find his spot, so he’ll throw more over the plate. He doesn’t have overpowering stuff, so he can be roughed up.

The Nats, even without Juan Soto and Josh Bell, have a solid lineup. They’re hitting .297 with a .333 BABIP and a 13.7% strikeout rate since trading away Bell and Soto. This is a game to expect a ton of offense.
