MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Friday (8/23)

We are back with a full slate of MLB action on Friday night. That means lots of opportunities to create some Same-Game Parlays (SGPs). We get a bit more bang for our collective buck with SGPs. And Friday’s slate has some matchups that should help us walk away with some profit.
Here are three of my favorite SGPs for Friday, August 23.

Friday's Best MLB Same Game Parlay Bets
Colorado Rockies @ New York Yankees
- Leg 1: New York Yankees Run Line -1.5 (-130)
- Leg 2: Kyle Freeland 1+ Walks Allowed (-1200)
- Leg 3: Carlos Rodon 7+ Strikeouts (-300)
- Leg 4: Colorado Rockies F5 Team Total Under 1.5 Runs (-135)
- Leg 5: Aaron Judge 2+ Total Bases (-135)
My first SGP involves the matchup between the New York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies. On paper, this matchup is about as lopsided as possible. New York enters Friday's action with the best run differential in baseball and the second-best record. Colorado has the second-worst run differential and third-worst won-loss record. We should see more of the same from both teams in this game.
Carlos Rodon should feast in this matchup. Since the All-Star break, the Rockies have posted a 40 wRC+ versus left-handed pitching on the road. That includes a 36% strikeout rate and a .181 batting average. And these numbers were before Patrick Corbin (yes, that Patrick Corbin) held them to a solo homer over six innings while striking out a season-high eight batters on Thursday.
I am playing Rodon to record at least seven strikeouts. He has hit that number in five of his last six home starts. I also expect the Rockies to go under their first five-inning team total of 1.5 runs.
Kyle Freeland has walked at least one batter in 12 of his 13 starts this season. Collectively, the Yankees have a 13% walk rate against left-handed pitching since the All-Star break. He should issue at least one free pass on Friday.
My last leg is for Aaron Judge to record at least two total bases. He is on one of his ridiculous runs. Judge has a 10-game hitting streak during which he has registered 42 total bases. If you are worried about walks getting in the way of this leg hitting, you can bump up Rodon's strikeouts to 8+ and Freeland's walks to 2+ instead. But with how Judge is performing, I cannot fade him.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Boston Red Sox
- Leg 1: Arizona Diamondbacks Moneyline (+115)
- Leg 2: Ryne Nelson 5+ Strikeouts (-175)
- Leg 3: Corbin Carroll 2+ Total Bases (+120)
My next SGP for Friday features another American League East team hosting an opponent from the National League West. Except I expect this game to play out a little differently when the Boston Red Sox host the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona comes in as a slight underdog, but I like them to win this game outright behind the resurgent Ryne Nelson.
Nelson has pitched to a 2.49 FIP since the All-Star break. That is nearly two runs better than the mark of his Friday counterpart Brayan Bello (4.43). Both offenses have been top-five outfits versus right-handed pitching over the past three weeks. But I give the edge to Nelson and a Diamondbacks bullpen which has been much better than Boston’s pen lately. Arizona's relievers have pitched to a 2.79 FIP in August, while Boston's have posted a 5.21 FIP.
Nelson has struck out 31 hitters over his past four outings. He has also recorded at least five strikeouts in seven of his last eight starts. While the Red Sox have hit the ball well of late, they have also been prone to the strikeout. Boston hitters have a 25.8% strikeout rate versus right-handers this month. That is the seventh-highest number in the Majors. I anticipate Nelson registering at least five punchouts on Friday night.
Finally, I am taking Corbin Carroll to record two or more total bases. He has recorded at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 starts. And he has multiple total bases in seven out of 13. Carroll slugs 110 points better versus right-handers this season, while Bello allows left-handed hitters to slug 113 points higher than righties.
If you do not have access to Fanatics Sportsbook, this SGP is exactly at the +400 threshold on DraftKings. If this dips below +400 and you need a boost, you can add Bello to record at least one walk. Bello has walked at least one batter in 21 of his 23 starts, including 17 games with at least two walks. Arizona has an 11.2% walk rate as a team versus right-handed pitchers this month.

Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves
- Leg 1: Atlanta Braves Run Line -1.5 (-130)
- Leg 2: MacKenzie Gore 2+ Walks Allowed (-255)
- Leg 3: MacKenzie Gore Under 5.5 Hits Allowed (-130)
Chris Sale looks to get another step closer to the National League Cy Young Award when he and the Atlanta Braves face MacKenzie Gore and the Washington Nationals. This SGP appears to have some reverse correlation surrounding Gore. But I believe there is a valid case to be made for these specific legs.
The first two legs of this SGP are the easiest to justify. Atlanta has the decided edge on the mound, so I am taking them on the Run Line. Among 64 qualified starting pitchers this year, Sale has the lowest xERA, FIP and xERA in the Majors. He has allowed 42 runs in 23 starts this year. Gore has allowed 36 runs in his last eight starts.
These offenses are also trending in opposite directions versus southpaws. The Braves have a 138 wRC+ this month against lefties, while the Nationals have posted a 77 wRC+ in the same split.
Gore's biggest bugaboo has been the base on balls. He has issued 25 walks in his last eight games. That includes seven games with at least two walks allowed. Atlanta has the league's highest walk rate versus lefties this month at 16.1%. Because of that, I am betting on Gore to walk at least two more hitters on Friday.
However, I am also taking Gore to go under his 5.5-hits allowed prop. The Braves are only hitting .239 as a club against left-handers this month. They also just lost All-Star third baseman Austin Riley. While I expect Gore's struggles with control to continue, he may avoid allowing a lot of hits.
There is also the possibility Washington manager Davey Martinez will give Gore an early hook if his control continues to be a factor. In four of his last 10 outings, Gore has allowed five or fewer hits but three or more walks. I can very easily envision another performance like this from Gore on Friday.
