MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Friday (9/6)
The first Friday after Labor Day features a full slate of MLB games. At this time of year, teams often have varying levels of motivation. That gives us plenty of potential fodder for our Same-Game Parlay (SGP) bets.
Here are three SGPs for Friday, September 6.

Friday's Best MLB Same Game Parlay Bets
New York Yankees at Chicago Cubs
- Leg 1: Luis Gil Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-115)
- Leg 2: Chicago Cubs First Five Innings Team Total Over 1.5 Runs (+105)
- Leg 3: Ian Happ Over 0.5 Walks (-140)
My first Same-Game Parlay is for Friday's matinee between the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. I see a lot of value in this SGP and would strongly consider playing all of these legs individually.
Luis Gil is making his first start since a stint on the injured list (IL) due to a back strain. Pitchers are typically limited upon their return from injury. This should go double for Gil. He has thrown more innings this year than in any other season in his career. New York has an eye on saving some of Gil's bullets for the playoffs.
Over the last few weeks, no offense has been hotter than the Chicago Cubs. Since August 15, Chicago has the league's highest wRC+ (141) versus right-handers. They also have the fifth-lowest strikeout rate at 19.6%. I am betting the under on Gil's strikeout prop while also taking the Cubs to score at least two runs over the game's first five innings.
Last but not least, I am taking Cubs leadoff hitter Ian Happ to draw at least one walk in this game. Happ has a 14% walk rate versus right-handed pitching this season. That is the eighth-highest mark in the Major Leagues. That lines up well against Gil, who has walked 13.1% of left-handed batters he has faced this season.

Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox
- Leg 1: Boston Red Sox -1.5 Run Line (-130)
- Leg 2: First Five Innings Under 4.5 Total Runs (-115)
- Leg 3: Nick Pivetta 5+ Alternate Strikeouts (-375)
- Leg 4: Jarren Duran 1+ Alternate Total Hits (-375)
The Boston Red Sox will host the Chicago White Sox in a matchup of two teams with very different mindsets. Boston needs to go on a huge run to potentially sneak into the playoffs, while Chicago is trying to avoid finishing with the worst record in modern MLB history.
I am confident in Boston and starter Nick Pivetta to take care of business on Friday night. Three of the four legs of this SGP are related in some form or fashion to Pivetta having a solid night on the mound.
First, I am going to take Boston and lay the 1.5 runs. The White Sox have a -303 run differential this season. Not only do they lose, but they tend to lose big.
Pivetta has struck out at least five hitters in eight of his last nine official outings. That does not include a 10-strikeout relief appearance that took place last week. That appearance goes down in the books as the completion of a suspended game from June. He should be able to punch out at least five White Sox on Friday.
Chicago's first five (F5) inning team total is set at 1.5 and is juiced to the under. Meanwhile, White Sox starting pitcher Davis Martin has shown the ability to pitch well in his six starts this year. He has allowed a total of 12 runs in those outings. I am taking the under on the F5 total of 4.5 runs. This leg should hit even if Martin gives up multiple runs.
Finally, I am betting on Boston leadoff hitter Jarren Duran to record a hit. Duran is fourth in the Majors with 170 base hits this season. He is hitting .303 at home this year including .335 versus right-handed pitching at Fenway Park.

Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins
- Leg 1: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline (-230)
- Leg 2: Zack Wheeler 6+ Alternate Strikeouts (-330)
- Leg 3: Edward Cabrera Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-105)
- Leg 4: Edward Cabrera 2+ Alternate Walks Allowed (-300)
- Leg 5: Kyle Schwarber Over 0.5 Walks (-190)
My final SGP for Friday feels a lot like a combination of the first two in some respects.
As is the case with the Red Sox and White Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins are in very different places heading into Friday evening's game. The Phillies are tied with the Dodgers for the best record in baseball, while Miami is already eliminated from playoff competition. I am taking Philadelphia on the Moneyline.
I also like Zack Wheeler to record at least six strikeouts. Wheeler has hit this line in 10 straight starts. Ironically, his last miss was against the Marlins. But Miami's lineup is completely different from the one Wheeler faced on June 27.
The remainder of this SGP is akin to Yankees-Cubs in that I am fading a pitcher with major control issues. Edward Cabrera has walked multiple batters in nine straight starts. That includes a four-walk outing against the Phillies on August 14. I believe he will walk at least two hitters in this game.
I am also betting on one of those walks coming via Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber has walked in 16.1% of his plate appearances against right-handed pitching this year. That is the third-highest rate in the Major Leagues.
Because of his control problems, Cabrera has had trouble putting hitters away as of late. He has recorded four or fewer strikeouts in four of his last five games. The lone exception was a game against the Colorado Rockies, who strike out at a very high rate. I am going under 5.5 on Cabreraâs strikeouts prop.
