MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (4/19)

Another full Friday of MLB action brings more opportunities to put together some Same-Game Parlays. As prices are always subject to change, a better price may be available elsewhere by the time of publication.

That said, here are my favorite SGPs for Friday, April 19’s MLB slate.

Friday's MLB Best Same Game Parlays

Houston Astros @ Washington Nationals

The Houston Astros enter Friday's action, losing three straight and seven of nine. But don't blame Jose Altuve and Kyle Tucker.

Altuve has a .462 on-base percentage with 15 runs scored this season, while Tucker has an .893 OPS with 15 RBI. Both have been particularly hot of late. Altuve has 14 hits in his last seven games. Tucker has reached base 14 times in his last six games, driving in eight runs in the process. I expect these trends to continue on Friday night in the nation's capital.

MacKenzie Gore has pitched well this year, but Houston will provide his biggest test. With Altuve and Tucker among those leading the charge, the Astros are second in the league in wRC+ versus left-handed pitching this season.

Since the beginning of last season, Altuve has 28 runs scored in 54 games versus left-handers. Tucker has been even more prolific. He leads MLB with 56 RBI against lefties. No other player in baseball has over 45.

Justin Verlander will be making his first start of the year for Houston. The veteran has been sidelined throughout the spring due to a shoulder issue. Houston will want to ease Verlander back into the swing of things. He is likely to be limited to around 80 pitches on Friday night.

Because of that, I am taking the Under on the number of hits Verlander will allow on Friday. If you can find an Earned Runs Allowed option, I also like that Under. Verlander allowed 144 hits in 162.1 innings last season, and I do not expect him to go longer than five innings in this game. Therefore, I am comfortable with this as the last leg of this SGP.

New York Mets @ Los Angeles Dodgers

My next SGP for Friday takes us to the West Coast, where the New York Mets will travel to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets have won four straight, but I expect that to end on Friday night. The Dodgers have too much firepower and have a distinct advantage on the mound with Yoshinobu Yamamoto compared to Sean Manaea.

Yamamoto has been outstanding since struggling in his Major League debut in Korea. He has allowed just 12 baserunners in 15 innings over his past three starts, striking out 19 hitters in that span. Manaea started strong but was hit hard in his last start.

He has also had some problems with several of the Dodgers’ hitters historically, and I am looking to take advantage of that history with the final two legs of this SGP.

Mookie Betts has 29 career at-bats against Manaea. Betts has dominated this matchup, with 25 total bases in those at-bats, including seven extra-base hits. Given his decided historical edge and how he has started the year, I had to include Betts to record at least two total bases in this matchup.

LA's big three of Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman have reached base at a ridiculous .417 clip this season. That is great news for Will Smith, who has thrived this season with runners on base and in scoring position. He is 9-for-21 with 13 RBI with RISP so far this year.

Smith has also had consistent success in his meetings versus Manaea. The Dodgers’ backstop is 8-for-16 lifetime against the Mets’ southpaw. If these trends continue, Smith is in a great position to drive in at least one run on Friday.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants

My third and final Same Game Parlay for Friday involves a unique opportunity that I want to take advantage of.

Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery were among the final prominent free-agent pitchers to sign with an MLB team this offseason. Snell will make his third start for the Giants, while Montgomery makes his Arizona debut on Friday night. I do not expect either pitcher to get a full workload in this game, which has me taking several of their Unders.

I think the easiest legs to get on board with are for neither pitcher to record a win. Snell has only pitched seven total innings in his two starts, while Montgomery threw 71 pitches in his final rehab start. I do not think there are any guarantees either hurler throws the requisite five innings, never mind pitches well enough to earn a victory on Friday. To that end, I think opportunities for either pitcher to record a large number of strikeouts or hits allowed are reduced

Let's start with Snell. He can rack up strikeouts at his peak with the best of them, and he has had success in his career against Arizona. But this year, the Diamondbacks are striking out on just 15% of plate appearances against lefties. They also have the second-most plate appearances versus left-handers, so this is a decent sample size. With Snell still working his way back into shape, I trust Arizona's hitters to avoid striking out at a high rate in this game.

Jordan Montgomery may also face a limited number of Giants hitters on Friday. Montgomery allowed 166 hits over 188.2 innings a season ago. This is a similar read to the Verlander leg in the SGP above. Considering Montgomery may not even pitch five innings, I am locking in the Under on him allowing 5.5 hits on Friday.
