MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (5/12)

We have an exciting Friday on tap with top pitching prospect Eury Perez making his debut for the Marlins. The 20-year-old Perez has the potential to be truly special, and it should be a ton of fun watching his debut. While we won’t be including this bet in our SGPs for today, it is definitely one game I’ll be watching.

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

Pittsburgh Pirates at Baltimore Orioles

Pirates ML (+125) and Pirates o4.5 Runs (+135)

This is a matchup of two interesting young arms that have elevated ERAs despite some interesting skills. Johan Oviedo had a great start to the season, but the last few outings have caused his ERA to rise over 5. However, the ERA estimators see him as a mid-3 ERA pitcher. He gets a tough matchup with the Orioles here, but his ability to generate groundballs should help to keep him from allowing home runs and thus controlling the scoring.

On the other side, Kyle Bradish was a popular breakout pick, but things have not gone well to begin the year. He is walking too many hitters as well as allowing too many long balls, which should help this Pirates’ offense to take advantage. They are more middle-of-the-road than elite, but they are one of five teams with a double-digit walk rate, meaning they are patient enough to let Bradish get himself into tough spots.

Jack Suwinski 2+ TBs (+180)

Suwinski had an extremely hot beginning to his season, but he has struggled a ton lately. He has given back the K% gains he was showing early on, and as a result, the power has disappeared. However, this may be clouded by him seeing more at-bats against left-handed pitching. He has still mashed right-handed pitching. This seems like a great spot for him.

Combined Odds: +500

Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Guardians

Guardians -1.5 (+150) and o4.5 Runs (+110)

I have this idea in my head the Cleveland offense is going to begin performing better than it has magically. However, the opening to the season has really been ugly. They have a wRC+ of 72 against lefties in 2023 and face Tyler Anderson. Anderson has been brutal in 2023, with way too many walks as well as too many homers. If their offense is ever going to get over their struggles, then this is the only spot that makes sense. In order to hold onto the win, the team is trusting Logan Allen with the ball. Allen has been excellent in his debut with a nearly 20% K-BB% and looks like the real deal. The Angels’ offense is extremely talented, with a wRC+ of 115 vs lefties, but Allen has shown enough skills to make me believe he can hold them down.

Josh Bell 2+ TBs

If the Guardians are going to score, Bell needs to be a part of it. He has not been the stalwart in the middle of the order the team was hoping for, but he has mashed lefties thus far. In his career, the splits are more even, but in 2023, he is showing more power against southpaws. This looks like a nice spot for him.

Combined Odds: +425

Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox

Astros -1.5 (+110) and o5.5 Runs (+135)

J.P. France is making his second career start, and his minors numbers are extremely interesting. He has posted double-digit K/9 numbers in all but one MILB stop. However, the walk numbers have been elevated. Yet this side of the bet is about the struggles of the White Sox offense and their inability to score. The Astros, however, should have no issues scoring against Michael Kopech. Kopech has allowed twelve home runs in under 40 innings thus far, and when he has allowed homers, they have come in bunches. The Astros’ offense has not been its normally elite self in 2023, but they still contain several of the best power hitters in the game.

Jeremy Pena to hit HR (+475)

Pick your poison on the Astros hitter to go yard, depending on how high you want the odds on this SGP. Kopech’s homer problems are well documented, and the Astros have several hitters with above-average pop. Pena has shown similar power to last season, and while he isn’t looking like the superstar he appeared to be in the playoffs, he is still a good hitter with solid pop and the ability to leave the yard.

Combined Odds: +900
