MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (7/14)

Baseball is back today after what felt like to me at least weeks without our favorite game. One of the nice benefits of returning on a Friday is we have every team on the schedule. We still have a few teams with today’s starter listed as TBD, so those games will have to be taken out of consideration here. Let’s dive into the ones we do have to choose from and find our favorite SGPs.

Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook

San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies

Leg 1: Padres -1.5 (+135)
Leg 2: Padres o5.5 Runs (+130)

The Padres have easily been one of the most disappointing teams of the first half of the season, and they look to open the second half with a turnaround. They have an immensely talented offense on paper and several above-average arms, with Darvish being among them. Cristopher Sanchez has been great, but he is more of a limit hard contact type of arm and those kinds of pitchers can find themselves getting beaten by powerful offenses. Darvish has been much better than his ERA indicates but the walks are up slightly. As long as he can keep the ball in the stadium, I am confident in his ability to limit this Phillies offense.

Leg 3: Juan Soto 2+ TBs (+130)

Soto is always a tough TB bet because of his willingness to take a walk, but he is just too talented of a hitter for his odds to be this high. He should put a ton of balls into play today, and the chances are good that at least one of them goes for extra bases.

Combined Odds: +425

Miami Marlins at Baltimore Orioles

Leg 1: Marlins ML (+100)
Leg 2: Marlins 05.5 Runs (+195)

No matter how great the Orioles have been, it is my opinion that Sandy Alcantara should not be an underdog in a matchup with Dean Kremer. Sandy has struggled mightily in 2023, but nothing under the hood appears to be notably different. He has a low LOB%, but otherwise, everything seems to be slightly worse, but nothing notable. I believe he has a big turnaround in the second half, and today should be the start of that. Dean Kremer has been decent based on expectations, but he is still too homer prone. The Marlins have a number of right-handed hitters, making this a bit tougher of a bet in Camden, but they have enough offensive upside and power hitters to put up a big number on this one.

Leg 3: Jesus Sanchez 2+ TBs (+140)

In Camden Yards, you want a team’s best left-handed hitter when betting for extra bases. Sanchez is just that for the Marlins, with light tower power from the left side. Kremer has HR issues, and as a result, I love this Sanchez bet today.

Combined Odds: +475

Detroit Tigers at Seattle Mariners

Leg 1: Tigers ML (+150)
Leg 2: Tigers o4.5 Runs (+240)

Let’s take our chances with a big parlay coming out of the break. The Tigers have certainly not been a great team overall, but they are sending their best arm out there today. Eduardo Rodriguez has been excellent this season, with career-bests in BB/9 and a K/9 over nine. He is limiting homers, and it has all led to a sub-three ERA. He had a rough return from the IL, but with a bit more rest, I believe that he will pick up right where he left off in this one. The other side of this bet is a bit tougher as Luis Castillo is getting the ball for the Mariners, but he has had a rougher last month or so. The Tigers’ offense is by no means elite, but there is some talent at the top, and this number is relatively low. We could also swap the 4.5 out for 3.5 to lower the odds, but overall this is not a high bar to cross, even for a below-average offense.

Leg 3: Kerry Carpenter 2+ TBs (+165)

Carpenter is a guy that I love and have loved to bet on. The lefty does not walk much but has excellent pop and loves mashing righties. He should hit near the top of the order and get several chances at this one. If the Tigers are going to score, he will have to be a big part of it.

Combined Odds: +600
