St. Louis Cardinals @ Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers will send out Kenta Maeda for tonight’s showdown against the Cardinals. Maeda has kept his walks down, but he’s still struck out just 17% of batters, including only 11.5% of righties.

Although a righty, he’s faced more righties than lefties this season. His first 52 righties have hit a .354 ISO and wOBA of .424 against him.

Therefore, it’s only fitting to parlay some of the best righties in the St. Louis lineup.

Since last season, Willson Contreras has smashed a .198 ISO and wOBA of .361 against righties. Nolan Arenado has knocked a .182 ISO and wOBA of .342. Paul Goldschmidt has also slugged a .173 ISO and wOBA of .340 against righties.

Contreras and Arenado are low strikeout threats against righties. Goldschmidt strikes out more, but he’s got more potential, as Maeda has struggled to punch out righties this season.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Los Angeles Angels

The Phillies will face Los Angeles Angels righty Griffin Canning tonight. Canning has allowed a .235 ISO and wOBA of .382 to his first 111 batters. However, while he’s struggled against both sides, he’s been even worse against lefties.

Lefties have smashed a .254 ISO and wOBA of .407 with 35.3% of fly balls and 37.3% of ground balls against Canning this season. The righty has also struck out below 20% of lefties to begin the season.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have some huge left-handed bats expected in the lineup. Brandon Marsh has smashed a .211 ISO and wOBA of .389 against his last 426 righties. Then there’s Kyle Schwarber, who has hit a .291 ISO and wOBA of .352. He’s an extra-base machine against righties. Lastly, Bryce Harper has hit a .211 ISO and wOBA of .387 against righties since last season.

Although Schwarber and Marsh are high-strikeout threats, Canning has seen his strikeout rate dip from 23.6% against lefties last season to just 19.7% this season. Canning has also allowed 51% of hard contact and has added just 9.1% of swinging strikes.

The left-handed Philly bats check out against Canning. Plus, the lineup only starts to look better going up against that Los Angeles bullpen once Canning is inevitably taken out of the game.

Stack up the lefties against the Angels tonight! Let’s start the week off strong!
