MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (5/1)

It’s not the most extensive slate of games tonight, but we’ve got enough to keep us busy. The weather hasn’t been the greatest over the weekend. But hopefully, that starts to change this week.

Here are a couple of same-game parlays to consider for tonight’s small MLB slate.

Chicago Cubs vs. Washington Nationals

MacKenzie Gore has a 3.42 xFIP for the Nationals this season. The lefty has struck out 31.5% of batters this year but has struggled with lefties, allowing them a .536 wOBA and ISO of .375.

But the Cubs will only have one lefty in the lineup, so that should help Gore get through any trouble tonight. He’s taking on a Cubs lineup that has struck out nearly 24% of the time against lefties. He’s also got five targets in the Chicago lineup that strike out at a high rate against lefties.

On the other hand, Drew Smyly is 2-1 with a 3.21 ERA, and he might’ve been close to a no-hitter. But he’s still holding a 4.57 xFIP and has allowed a .269 ISO to lefties this season.

C.J. Abrams is starting to find his bat against lefties this year, hitting a .231 ISO and wOBA of .352 against lefties. Abrams should be able to put a couple of balls in play against Smyly, so one just needs to become a hit.

The Nationals have also struck out just 16.7% of the time against lefties this year. Tonight won’t be Smyly’s best night.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres

I’m fading Luke Weaver tonight. He has a 4.46 xFIP while inducing 36.7% of ground balls this season. He’s allowing 46.7% of hard contact but has only allowed 10% of line drives.

That will increase going up against this Padres lineup, with five players hitting righties with line drives over 20% of the time when the ball is in play.

Let’s start with Juan Soto, who has a .276 ISO and wOBA of .402 against righties this season. He’s not hitting many line drives, but he is striking out under 20% of the time. Soto is known for working walks, but Weaver has done well limiting them this year. I like Soto to get an extra-base hit instead.

Meanwhile, Xander Bogaerts is hitting a .297 ISO and wOBA of .470 against righties. He, like Soto, will walk at a high rate. But he also strikes out at a low rate against righties, and Weaver, again, has done well keeping walks down.

Lastly, Matt Carpenter is a left-handed hitting specialist who will bat against righties most of the time. He’s hitting a .317 ISO and wOBA of .372 against righties this season. Carpenter rarely hits the ball on the ground and has hit mainly fly balls. With Weaver allowing a ton of hard contact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carpenter get a hard fly ball against Weaver for a hit.
