Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
This is one of the better pitching matchups to follow on Saturday. Dylan Cease had an excellent 2022 and, at one point, allowed one or fewer runs in 14 straight starts. Then on the other side, you have Shane McClanahan, who was a heavy Cy Young candidate for the first half of last season.
The significant difference is the offensive comparison. The Rays went on a historical run to start the season and are currently leading the league in most major categories, including average, slugging, on-base, and home runs.
The White Sox had some bats leave in the offseason, and we've seen the power from this lineup fade, as they're 15th in slugging and 25th in hard-hit percentage.
Give the edge to the Rays in this game.
Total Odds: +565
New York Mets at San Francisco Giants
After a rough start to the season for the Metropolitans, theyâve won eight of their last nine and can take their fifth straight series with a win. The bats have come alive during that time by averaging 6.4 runs per game compared to 3.8 in their first 12 games. Their batting average has also jumped 24 points in that span.
Even with David Petersonâs tough start to the tune of a 6.10 ERA, his 9.6 strikeouts per nine will help against the Giants, who have the highest strikeout percentage this season. Ride with New York getting the win on Saturday.
Total Odds: +555
Detroit Tigers at Baltimore Orioles
The breakout year of the Orioles continues as they begin the season 12-7 and have won four straight. Their offense has been the catalyst to their impressive start, and they are fifth in weighted on-base percentage and seventh in expected slugging. However, the pitching has helped them by allowing just one run in the last three games.
That one run was to the Tigers, whose bats have come alive over the last few games, and they scored 22 runs in a recent five-game winning streak.
They will need that offense with Joey Wentz pitching. He had his best outing recently, but it was against the Giants, who have been a below-average offense to start the season. The Oâs should have a better offensive game than recently and push them to a win.
Total Odds: +524
