Atlanta Braves at Toronto Blue Jays

The Braves are already beginning to pull away in the NL East as they come in with a six-game lead. Power pitching and power hitting drive them, and this offense leads in both hard-hit and barrel percentage while the pitching is sixth in ERA. Bryce Elder has been fantastic this season and in seven starts this season has allowed three or fewer runs in six of them.

The Blue Jays are trying to find balance and consistency. The lineup continues to deliver by being second in expected batting average and third in barrel percentage, but the pitching has been average all season. One particular starter who has struggled is Jose Berrios. If you catch him on a good day, he can look brilliant, but sometimes he can get shelled, and you never know when it will happen.

I like that to happen tonight, with Berrios’ barrel percentage in the 29th percentile. Expect a big Atlanta offensive showing.

San Fransisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are among the most surprising teams this season, as they sit in second place in the NL West. This was a mediocre offense last year, but now they’re second in average with the third-fewest strikeouts. Zac Gallen has always been an excellent pitcher but has stepped up big time. From last year, his strikeout percentage has jumped by seven points, whiff percentage by 7.5, and walk percentage dropped by 3.4; those are drastic changes.

The Giants tried to make some moves in the offseason, but most didn’t happen, and what they currently have isn’t working out. The pitching is 18th in ERA, and even in a pitcher’s ballpark, their home ERA is ranked 14th. They have a great top of the rotation, and that includes Anthony DeSclafani. However, he is coming off his worst start of the year, giving up five earned to the Nationals.

Gallen has a great history against the Giants with a .256 wOBA and a 28.6 strikeout percentage. Ride with the D-Backs.

Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics

It continues to be an excellent season for the Rangers as they still hold onto first place in the NL West. They have been a great offense and are third in wRC+, but the new starting rotation is working out, as they’re sixth in both average and strikeout percentage. Jon Gray has been a great piece in the rotation and has had two quality starts in his last three outings.

There isn’t much to say about the Athletics, except they could go down as one of the worst teams in MLB history. JP Sears’ first full season is not starting off well, and he’s allowed at least four earned in two of his last three starts.

Ride the Rangers to an easy win.
