Pittsburgh Pirates @ Philadelphia Phillies
- Leg 1: Phillies Over 4.5 Team Total Runs (-111)
- Leg 2: Phillies -1.5 (+114)
- Leg 3: Zack Wheeler Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-105)
With the Phillies winning on Saturday, they can take the series 3-1. Theyâve quickly improved after losing the series to the Braves and could win their third straight. They have Zack Wheeler on the mound, and he's having another fantastic season with a 1.89 ERA and a team-leading 20 strikeouts. The Pirates lineupâ has had trouble versus Wheeler, as they have a career .117 average and a 36.4% strikeout rate against him.
Just like last year, the Pirates have started hot; they'll just hope it doesn't result in an awful second half as it did in 2023. We'll reserve our assessment of their start because it's been against the Tigers, Nationals and Marlins, but they did take two of three against the Orioles. Mitch Keller will take the mound, and after two subpar outings to start the season, he finally got his first quality start against the Tigers. This Philadelphia lineup has not been kind to him, and they have a .697 SLG and a 10.6% walk rate.
The Phillies' offense has been great throughout this series and should continue against a starter they have succeeded against.
Total: +694
Chicago Cubs @ Seattle Mariners
- Leg 1: Over 7.5 (-112)
- Leg 2: Cubs Moneyline (+124)
- Leg 3: Javier Assad Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-102)
After the Cubsâ 4-1 win, they will force the rubber match on Sunday. They had a difficult schedule, but the lineup is finding ways to get on base; Chigaco is second in walk rate and 11th in runners left in scoring position. It's been an excellent start for Javier Assad this year, and he will give the Mariners a problem as he keeps that sinker down. The slider has had tremendous movement this year.
Nothing has been going right to start the season for Seattle. With the exception of Ty France and Mitch Haniger, the entire lineup is struggling, with five players hitting under .200 with at least 30 at-bats. The rotation has not been much better, including Luis Castillo, who has gone five innings and allowed four earned in all three of his starts.
This will not be an easy matchup for Seattle, which has the pitching and hitting advantage in this game.
Pick: +728
New York Yankees @ Cleveland Guardians
- Leg 1: Over 8.5 (-122)
- Leg 2: Yankees Moneyline (-138)
- Leg 3: Juan Soto Over 2+ Total Bases (-105)
The Yankees look great. They enter Sunday with the best record at 12-3 and are going for the sweep in Cleveland. They're a very patient team at the plate, leading in walk rate. They also have one of the best pitching staffs that is second in ERA. After a tough first start, Nestor Cortez has been much better in his last two and is coming off eight scoreless innings against the Marlins.
Despite losing both games in the doubleheader, the Guardians have looked good to start this season. The pitching has been great, as they're third in ERA and hits allowed per nine. Cleveland is also sixth in strikeouts per nine. Logan Allen hasn't helped those numbers, as he has a 4.61 ERA and has been shelved by the White Sox and Athletics.
That doesn't give you confidence going against the Yankees, who put up 11 runs on Saturday.
Total: +513
