(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Arizona Diamondbacks @ Atlanta Braves
- Leg 1: Braves Team Total Over 5.5 (-105)
- Leg 2: Braves -1.5 (-110)
- Leg 3: Marcell Ozuna To Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)
It's still early in the season, but Atlanta looks good so far that they could easily win the division again. The team proved its resilience after coming back from 6-0 to win 9-8 yesterday, as it got multiple hits from the 1-6 batters. It was an excellent debut start for Chris Sale, as he pitched 5.1 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out seven.
Last night's loss was just another tough break in now what is a three-game losing streak for Arizona. The offense is doing its part by scoring 25 runs in the last four games, but the pitching, especially the bullpen, continues to disappoint them. Ryne Nelson gets the ball and was shelved in his start against the Yankees. He lasted just 2.2 innings, allowing four earned and walking four.
Nelson's control problems have existed throughout his career, and now he faces Atlanta, who is 11th in walk rate.
Total: +628
Philadelphia Phillies @ Washington Nationals
- Leg 1: Phillies Moneyline (-170)
- Leg 2: Under 8.5 (-130)
- Leg 3: Bryce Harper To Record 2+ Total Bases (+125)
The Phillies got their first series win of the season, but they would love to get the sweep against the Nationals. The lineup is clicking on all cylinders, especially the top, as they got all east one hit from the 2-6 batters in both games of this series, and the bullpen has been closing out these games by allowing one run. Cristopher Sanchez gets the ball and had a fantastic debut, going five innings, allowing two earned and striking out eight.
The Nationals struggling is something we'll see throughout the season, as they should likely finish at the bottom of the standings. Mackenzie Gore gets the start and allowed three runs in 5.1 innings in the first start.
Sanchez had some swing-and-miss stuff, and it should be another high-strikeout day against the Nats, who are 18th in K Rate.
Total: +532
Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees
- Leg 1: Yankees Moneyline (-155)
- Leg 2: Over 8.5 (-120)
- Leg 3: Gleyber Torres To Record 2+ Total Bases (+100)
The Yankees were able to get the win yesterday, but they had to work for it. They allowed three runs in the ninth and emerged with the 9-8 win. Luis Gil will get the start in the rubber match. There were some positives in his first since Tommy John surgery in 2022; he allowed just one run in 4.2 innings, but the control problems continue to be an issue, as he allowed three walks.
Starting the season on a 10-game road trip cannot be easy. The Jays have yet to see home, and while the lineup and pitching are struggling, a win would get them to 5-5. Bowden Francis got torched in his first MLB appearance as a starter by allowing seven earned in five innings. He has a fantastic curveball that gets hitters chasing. Still, he was leaving his slider and fastball at the heart of the plate, and it was getting crushed.
You can't do that to a Yankee lineup full of power, and that should come out in this one.
Total: +503
