Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees

  • Leg 1: Yankees ML (-184)
  • Leg 2: Aaron Judge to record over 2+ total bases (-130)
  • Leg 3: Over 8.5 (-105)
  • Leg 4: Nestor Cortez over 5.5 strikeouts (-122)

If you could believe it, the Yankees’ magical number to win the American League East is down to just three games as they look to sweep Boston.

Nestor Cortez continues to be one of the best assets in the rotation and looks to be their No. 2 starter for the playoffs. His last start against the Red Sox was very successful in Fenway, pitching five innings, allowing three hits, one earned, and struck out seven in the win.

Boston will send up rookie Brayan Bello, who has not been dependable this season. He’s just 2-6, and the team is 2-9 in his starts, including his last start against the Yankees when he allowed three runs, all unearned, last week at Fenway.

The Yankees and Red Sox have gone over the total in seven of nine games this year in New York, and they’ll do it again. I like Judge to make some noise with his bat and maybe get No. 61.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays

  • Leg 1: Under 6.5 (-104)
  • Leg 2: Manuel Margot to record over 2+ total bases (+155)
  • Leg 3: Shane McClanahan over 5.5 strikeouts (-146)

The Blue Jays and Rays are in a tight Wild Card race, and in the new playoff format, the first spot gets to host the entire three-game first-round series. If the season ended today, it would be Rays vs. Blue Jays in Toronto.

Ross Stripling has been on a great run in the second half of the season as the team is 9-1 in his last ten starts, and he has a 3.05 ERA in that span. One of those came against the Rays a couple of weeks ago, going six innings, allowing one earned.

Shane McClanahan fell out of the Cy Young race with a couple of rough starts and an IL stint, but he should likely be Tampa Bay’s top starter in the playoffs. In his first start off the IL against the Blue Jays, he went five shutout innings in the win.

With a Rays win, these two teams are tied for the top spot in the American League Wild Card. This will be an exciting pitching matchup in the series finale.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies

  • Leg 1: Over 8.5 (-126)
  • Leg 2: Bryce Harper to record over 2+ total bases (+115)
  • Leg 3: Braves ML (-126)

The Braves and Phillies are both in close races — Atlanta sits  1.5 games out of a National League East, and the Phillies hold to that same lead for the third Wild Card Spot.

Inconsistency has been Charlie Morton’s problem throughout the season. That goes with facing the Phillies as he’s 2-2 with one start being a shutout and allowing four earned.

Kyle Gibson is amid a rough patch as he enters this start. In September, the Phillies are just 1-3 in his four starts, and he has an atrocious 9.68 ERA in that span.

The Braves finally got out of the mini-slump they were in by putting up six runs yesterday. This should be another chance for a big game against a struggling pitcher.
