MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday, September 4 (2022)

As we head into the last month of the season, there are still some tight races, especially in the Wild Card.

Today we’ll feature a team in each game that currently holds a Wild Card spot, but a couple of them still have a shot at winning a division, which we know is very important in the new playoff format.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

  • Leg 1: Jays -1.5 (-120)
  • Leg 2: Ross Stripling Over 4.5 strikeouts (+104)
  • Leg 3: Bo Bichette to record 2+ total bases (-105)

Ross Stripling has been a completely different pitcher in the second half of the second as not only are the Blue Jays holding onto that last Wild Card spot, but with the Yankees struggling, they could make a move in the American League. He had been struggling from bullpens with occasional spots with a 4.22 ERA, but since permanently moving into the rotation, he’s 5-3 with a 2.35 ERA. He gets a favorable matchup today against the Pirates, who are sitting in the bottom three of every major offensive category.

JT Brubaker has not been able to be consistent throughout the season, which is especially tough when you don’t get any run support. If you look through the game log, his performances are primarily based on how good the lineup is.

While Toronto’s offense has not met expectations this season, they still can put up runs against below-average pitching. Whether or not they put up a big number, don’t expect much from the Pittsburgh lineup.

Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Braves -1.5 (-120)
  • Leg 2: Pablo Lopez Over 6.5 strikeouts  (+114)
  • Leg 3: Ronald Acuna Jr. to record 2+ total bases (+110)

The Braves would love a home sweep of Miami as they head on a long west coast road trip. They have the best pitcher for the job as Max Fried holds the second-best odds in the National League Cy Young race (+1100 according to Vegas Insider). The Braves’ ace continues to go out and give this team a chance to win as he has quality starts in 11 of his last 12 outings, along with a 2.20 ERA. He’s seen Miami once back in May, going six innings and allowing one earned, but since then, the Miami offense has been one of the worst in the league.

We mention Fried as a potential Cy Young, that was Pablo Lopez earlier in the season, but he has struggled in the second half. Leaving May, he had a 1.83 ERA in ten starts, since he has a 4.86 ERA in 16 starts.

You have to love the Braves pulling out the brooms.

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Leg 1: Dodgers -1.5 (+112)
  • Leg 2: Under 9  (-105)

We have the rubber match in a division rivalry that could meet in the playoffs.

The Dodgers will send up the rookie Ryan Pepiot who has pitched well in the few starting opportunities he’s been given throughout the season. Pepiot’s game plan will be trying to keep the hitters off-balance as he mixes his changeup 94 MPH fastball. The nearly six MPH difference in these pitches has been effective as he has a 26.3% strikeout rate.

Mike Clevinger, in his returning season after missing all of 2021 due to Tommy John, has not gone well. There’s been a lack of consistency, especially in August, going 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA, and has not won back-to-back games this season. His previous start against the Dodgers was one of his roughest going 4.2 innings, allowing a season-high five earned.

I like the rookie getting the series win for the Dodgers.
