Tampa Bay Rays @ Boston Red Sox

The Tampa Bay Rays will throw Aaron Civale for tonight’s game against the Red Sox. Although Civale was terrific last season, he’s really struggled against lefties this season.

Civale has allowed a .226 ISO and wOBA of .396 to his first 69 lefties. He’s also induced just 34.1% of ground balls and has allowed 27.3% of line drives and 27.3% of fly balls to lefties this season.

Therefore, the top of the Red Sox order looks great. Jarren Duran, a lefty, has hit a .193 ISO and wOBA of .326 against righties. Behind him will likely be Wilyer Abreu, who has slugged a .224 ISO and wOBA of .402 against righties this season. Finally, a Red Sox parlay of lefties wouldn’t be right without Rafael Devers.

Devers has hit a .254 ISO and wOBA of .404 against righties this season. Therefore, we’ll stack the lefties against Civale tonight.

Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres

The Colorado Rockies’ projected lineup has struck out 27.2% of the time against righties this season. They’ve got six batters in the lineup that have struck out more than 26% of the time against righties this season.

That’s not ideal for Colorado, who will face Dylan Cease of the Padres tonight. Cease has struck out 32.4% of batters this season, including 29.7% of lefties and 35.1% of righties. He’s ultimately been dominant against both sides of the plate and has held teams to a .091 ISO and wOBA of .196. Expect a significant outing from Cease tonight.

Meanwhile, the Rockies will pitch Cal Quantril. Quantril has watched his first 88 lefties hit a .182 ISO and wOBA of .320. He’s also struck out under 15% of left-handed batters. Therefore, Luis Arraez and Jake Cronenworth have potential.

Arraez has hit a .354 wOBA with only 2.8% of strikeouts against righties. On the other hand, Cronenworth has slugged a San Diego-best .278 ISO and wOBA of .417 with only 15.2% of strikeouts against righties.

In addition, Arraez has smacked 33.7% of line drives, while Cronenworth has slugged 31.1% of line drives. Arraez has a .347 BABIP, which is really high. But Cronenworth isn’t far behind with a .325 BABIP. He’s also hit a team-high 14.4% barrel percentage against righties and still has hit a 47.8% hard contact rate.

These two have really good matchups against Quantril tonight.
