MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (5/17)

All 3o teams play today giving us a ton of options to choose from for today’s SGP bets. Offense continues to be up so we will continue to build bets with the same basic premise. Let’s dive into today’s options.

Wednesday’s Best MLB Same Game Parlay Bets

Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants

The Phillies’ offense has been league-average over the course of the season and has actually been below average the last two weeks. However, they still have an extremely talented roster of hitters despite their struggles. Ross Stripling has struggled mightily allowing way too many home runs (3.1 HR/9) so far this season. While he is unlikely to carry such a high HR total all season, the power hitters in this Phillies’ lineup will make the struggles continue.

The Phillies’ are starting Taijuan Walker who has had his own struggles in 2023. While not as extreme as Stripling, Walker has allowed a few too many homers himself and paired with an elevated walk rate has caused an ERA over five. The Giants’ offense is slightly above average with a 107 wRC+ but they are slightly below average in the last 14 days, similar to the Phillies. Their injuries have had an impact on the offense’s upside. Overall Walker should be able to hold them off long enough to allow the offense to do the work.

Schwarber has struggled mightily in 2023 but he is one of the streakiest hitters in the game. His power is still there but he is being destroyed by a miserably low BABIP. I have a feeling this is the game where the hot streak starts to get going.

Parlay Odds: +425

Atlanta Braves at Texas Rangers

This is mostly a bet on the Braves offense which has been the second best in the league behind the Rays. They get to face Nathan Eovaldi who is off to an insane start in 2023. The skills do not seem out of line with his previous career norms except for a minuscule HR rate. Throughout his career, he has allowed around one HR/9, and this season it is down at 0.17. The Braves’ offense should present a really difficult challenge for him and I think they get the best of him. With the structure of this bet, we just need the Rangers to score a couple of runs off Spencer Strider and their offense has the third-best wRC+ in the game. We don’t need a ton from their side so I feel confident they can get it done.

The Murphy trade will go down as one of the best moves of the 2023 off-season. The catcher has a wRC+ of 163 which is top ten in baseball and a top six ISO. Based on how good he has been, his odds on this bet are much higher than they should be and this makes him a perfect fit for the SGP.

Tampa Bay Rays at New York Mets

Things have gone about as poorly as could be for the Mets. Their pitching has been terrible as has their offense and it’s leading to some massive struggles. The Mets have a wRC+ of 101 against left-handers and get to face Josh Fleming today. Fleming has shown flashes of success but his career has mostly been an average one. He carries a high GB% which lets his HR/FB struggles not impact him too much. However, the Mets’ offense is being hurt by poor RISP luck and BABIP and eventually, this should all flip back in their favor soon.

Kodai Senga has been a bit inconsistent in his short MLB career mostly due to too many walks and homers but there are some really interesting skills in there. The Rays’ offense is truly elite but has had some struggles at times over the last few weeks. These odds seem a bit too high for the difference in pitching talent/potential and thus make the Mets a nice bet here.

Pete Alonso is quite possibly the best pure power hitter in all of baseball. His 14 HRs are tied for the league lead and he has hit more home runs than anyone else in baseball over the last few seasons. He has a 0.294 career ISO against lefties and should be able to do some serious damage against Fleming.
