Cleveland Guardians at New York Yankees

Cleveland is starting their ace, Shane Bieber. He gets to face a Yankee lineup that has truly been well below average in the last few weeks. While they did get Harrison Bader back on Tuesday, they are still missing three of their most valuable hitters in Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Josh Donaldson. They should struggle to score against Bieber. The other side of the game sees Clarke Schmidt take the mound. Schmidt has struggled as a starter and this is mostly due to his issues with left-handed hitters. While the sample is small, Schmidt has allowed a wOBA of .526 against lefties. While the Guardians’ offense is not elite, they do have several talented left-handed hitters who should be able to make something happen against Schmidt.

One of those left-handed hitters is Josh Bell. Bell has been a league-average hitter in 2023 thus far, he is still one of the best hitters in this offense. His BABIP is low which is hiding a bit of improvement for him as his ISO is slightly higher than it was last season. He might never be the nearly 30 HR bat he once was but there’s enough power in there for him to take advantage of a struggling pitcher.

Cincinnati Reds at San Diego Padres

This is all mostly a bet against Luis Cessa, the Reds’ starter today. Cessa has struggled a ton in 2023 mostly due to his strikeouts cratering to the point where he is walking as many hitters as he has strikeouts. He has historically had some home run issues as a starter and while they are down this season, they are still worse than average. The Padres’ offense has been league-average mostly due to some of their most important hitters struggling. This has all the makings of a get-right spot for the Padres’ offense as they should be able to get to this number. In order for this bet to hit, we also need the Reds’ offense to be limited by Seth Lugo who has been solid in his move back to the starting rotation. He gets to face this Reds’ offense who has a wRC+ of 82 which is well below the league average.

Soto has been “struggling” in 2023 to the point any hitter who has a wRC+ of 123 can be struggling. His issue has been a low batting average but over the last two weeks, his AVG is over .260. He is far too talented of a hitter with too much power for his TB prop to be priced this way making him the best bet for this SGP.

Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics

While he has not looked like a future ace results-wise early in this season, Logan Gilbert is still an insanely talented young pitcher. He has a K/9 over 11 and a BB/9 below 2 despite an ERA over 4. Oakland’s offense has actually been better than expected thus far with a wRC+ of 95. However, their K% is the fifth worst in the league making this a great spot for Gilbert. On the offensive side, the Mariners get to face JP Sears, who, despite my liking for his pure stuff, has struggled this season. The issue is too many homers as he is allowing more than two per nine innings. Seattle is actually a below-average offense against left-handers with a wRC+ of only 82. However, their best power hitters are all right-handed which should make this a good get-right spot.

Suarez is off to a rough start, with a WRC+ of only 87. His calling card offensively has always been power but he only has two homers thus far. Throughout his career he has a 128 wRC+ against southpaws and that comes with a .233 ISO. Like the rest of this offense, this looks like a fantastic get-right spot for Suarez.
