MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (7/19)

In the super small sample of the second half, the offense seems to have taken a big jump up, with yesterday leading the charge. Scoring was insane, with nearly half the league reaching double-digit runs scored. Let’s look at today’s slate to see what baseball has in store for us today.

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

Miami Marlins at St Louis Cardinals

Leg 1: Marlins ML (+105)
Leg 2: Marlins o5.5 Runs (+180)

This bet is entirely about the pitching matchup. The Marlins are sending Sandy Alcantara to the mound, and while he has not been his dominant self in 2023, he is still one of the better pitchers in baseball. He has been a bit better of late, with two runs allowed or less in three of his last four starts. I expect a big second half from the Marlin right-hander. The Cardinals are sending out Dakota Hudson, who has good surface numbers in 2023, but the underlying ones paint a different picture. His Ks remain low, but he also gets fewer groundballs than ever. For someone with limited stuff, a reduction in GB% could be detrimental to his overall success. While the Marlins as a team do not have massive power numbers, they have several big bats in the middle of that order that can do damage in a game like this.

Leg 3: Jesus Sanchez 2+ TBs (+135)

Sanchez is one of those big-time power bats. The lefty has a 0.230 ISO on the season while having a higher GB% than we would like to see from a hitter with his pop. We should see him get back to hitting a few more balls in the air, and if he can do that, he should be one of the better power breakouts of the second half. That should begin with today’s game against the Cardinals.

Combined Odds: +450

San Diego Padres at Toronto Blue Jays

Leg 1: Padres -1.5 (+150)
Leg 2: Padres o5.5 Runs (+160)

Jose Berrios has had a bounce-back season for the Blue Jays, but he has still had a handful of blow-up starts this season. The Padres’ offense has been a bit better, and Manny Machado appears to be heating up to go along with Fernando Tatis and Juan Soto. The Padres should be able to take advantage of Berrios’s struggles and do enough damage to hit this over. Yu Darvish was excellent in his last outing and should continue to put the Padres into positions to win and hit this run-line bet. The Blue Jays’ offense has been good but has had a bit of an up-and-down stretch overall across the season, and their overall inconsistency plays in well for this bet.

Leg 3: Juan Soto 2+ TBs (+125)

Soto always seems to come in at plus money on his total bases bets due to his ability and willingness to draw walks, but in terms of pure offensive upside, he is too talented for this number. The power has remained elite, and he is one of the league’s best hitters.

Combined Odds: +450

San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds

Leg 1: Giants -1.5 (+135)
Leg 2: Giants o6.5 Runs (+165)

This slate does not feature many bets that fit my usual mold of SGPs, but on paper, this one seems like a good one for me. The Giants have been a slightly above-average offense versus right-handed pitching, as many of their preferred platoon bats are left-handed mashers. Playing in GABP should only help to enhance their offensive upside. Ashcraft has allowed one run in each of his last three starts, but his game log is littered with massive blow-ups due to allowing too many long balls. The Giants should be able to get to him twice. The Reds’ offense is full of potential, and a massive range of outcomes, and their last few games have shown this. Prior to their major outburst yesterday, they had struggled to score all weekend against the Brewers. While the pure stuff may not be there as much, a veteran pitcher like Ross Stripling is the perfect type of arm to cause them fits.

Leg 3: Mike Yastrzemski 2+ TBs (+120)

Many of the Giants hitters have low numbers associated with their total bases props, likely due to the park and pitching matchup, and this number for Yaz is the best one for us in terms of payout. He has an ISO over 0.200 and a wRC+ of 131 this season versus righties. He may not have the same over-the-fence power as some other Giants’ bats, but his extra-base hit prowess should not be questioned.

Combined Odds: +425
