Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

Nobody in the American League East wants to win this division. The Orioles and Yankees have not been able to build a significant lead, as neither has been consistent in the second half of the season.

The Yankees’ problem throughout this rough stretch is the pitching. The starters haven't been as good, but they have no one in the bullpen they can depend on. They’ve had a 4.11 ERA since August 1, and they've even deployed Marcus Stroman to the bullpen.

With all the money they're paying Gerrit Cole, that would never happen. Not that he deserves it, as he has six quality starts over the last 10.

The Red Sox's best chance to get into the playoffs is through the Wild Card, as they sit 4.5 games away from the third spot. They were in a much better position earlier in the year, as they improved in the middle months by going 28-22 in June and July, but are 17-22 in August and September. A lot of this has to do with the pitching regression, with a 4.74 ERA since August 1 that ranks 24th in the league.

Brayan Bello has been Boston's most consistent pitcher, winning 10 of his last 13 starts with a 3.92 ERA.

The Yankees have won two straight and look to their ace to finish the series sweep.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Braves Moneyline (-130)
  • Leg 2: Under 7.5 Runs (-108)
  • Leg 3: Dodgers Under 3.5 Runs (-110)

This series will be worth watching with two potential playoff teams. Nothing is secure for the Dodgers, as they hold only a 4.5-game lead in the National League West. The offense is one of the best, scoring the third-most runs (5.00), but injuries to the pitching have left them inconsistent, and their 4.48 ERA since August 12 is 22nd.

Jack Flaherty was a big acquisition for the Dodgers and, as we mentioned, needed to help them in October. He's been an important addition and is 5-1 with a 2.61 ERA.

The Braves have a tougher path to the playoffs. They are a game behind their rival Mets for the third Wild Card spot. They get a three-game series against them, so they must keep pace leading up to that series.

The pitching has been incredible, with a 2.47 ERA over the last 27 games, which leads the league. The big difference between this season and previous ones is the power numbers are down. For example, they led with a 4.9% home run rate last year, but that number has dropped to 3.4%.

They may not need the power with Chris Sale, whose resurgence will earn him his first Cy Young, which is very surprising after what was a great early part of his career.

You can’t go against Sale, no matter who is on the other side.
