Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins
- Leg 1: Phillies -1.5 (-130)
- Leg 2: Darren McCaughan Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-125)
- Leg 3: Kyle Schwarber Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)
The Phillies are building a cushion in the National League East, so you have to wonder how they'll play out the rest of the season. They haven't clinched anything, and the top-seed race is still up for grabs as they are tied with the Dodgers. They have to wonder if the potential of a National League Championship Series Game 7 at home is important.
They have one of the leagueâs top lineups and pitching staffs, so they are equipped for whatever situation.
Aaron Nola is part of this stellar pitching staff and has a 3.29 ERA, and he's not the starter in this rotation in the Cy Young race. Itâs hard to believe when the Phillies have won his last four starts, and he has a 1.44 ERA.
It's even harder to believe Nola lost against this Marlins lineup. They are 29th in runs scored and on-base percentage (OBP). The offense hasn't been any better, scoring just four runs this series while allowing 21.
At this point, they are just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. Last week, Darren McCaughan had his first MLB start in nearly three years, going four innings and allowing four runs against the Giants.
The Phillies will grab another big win.

New York Yankees at Chicago Cubs
The Yankees have had trouble beating bad teams. They just had a series against the Nationals, Rockies, Cardinals and Rangers, going 5-7 in those games
The incompetence of the pitching has become the largest problem for the team and could be the reason they don't win a championship. For example, closer Clay Holmes has blown a league-leading 11 save opportunities and has an era of 5.14 in his last 35 innings.
The Yankees have been getting pieces back into their rotation; Luis Gil returned Friday and had an excellent performance, and Clarke Schmidt comes back Saturday. He had a 2.52 ERA in 11 starts before going on the injured list (IL).
The Cubs are still hunting for a Wild Card spot, sitting at five games out. They have been hot recently, going 9-4 in their last 13. The bats were on fire during a stretch by scoring 92 runs in an 11-game span, but they've fallen flat and shut out in two of their last three.
That has been the problem with this team all season; they show life, then fail, and that's why they are slightly above .500.
Javier Assad continually helps keep his team in contention every game. He has a 3.10 ERA, and the Cubs are 6-2 in his last eight starts.
Let's bank on the Cubs rebounding with an excellent offensive performance.
