Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves

What a brutal start it has been for Atlanta. They lost their first seven games of the season, and the offense has been terrible, ranking 28th in batting average (.190), 29th in slugging rate (.291) and 27th in OPS (.572). We knew this lineup wouldn't hit for average and strike out a lot, but the power that has carried them the last couple of years isn't there. They're still waiting on Ronald Acuna Jr. to return, so hopefully, that can reinvigorate the lineup.

Grant Holmes’ first start of the season against the Dodgers didn't go well. He was shelved for four runs and four walks in four innings.

Just a day after an atrocious 10-0 loss to the Braves, the Marlins came back with a 4-0 win. Miami has gotten off to a nice 5-4 start, but it's been against the Pirates, Mets and Braves, three teams that have struggled out of the gate. They're winning, but they're not putting up phenomenal numbers: 13th in batting (.230) and 20th in wOBA (.279). We'll see how they play when facing better competition.

Sandy Alcantara has had two excellent starts, but what matters is that his stuff looks good. The fastball is reaching the upper 90s and he is getting excellent movement on his breaking balls.

New York Yankees at Pittsburgh Pirates

The Yankees’ offense continues to set records. They popped two more home runs on Saturday and became the fastest team to 25. Are the torpedo bats responsible? Not all of the players are using them, but it might help that everyone in the lineup can do damage.

The bats must be consistent because the pitching hasn't, with a 4.57 ERA. Will Warren's first start this season wasn’t terrible, going five innings and allowing two earned runs, but the four walks could be troublesome.

Pittsburgh hasn't done well this year in terms of hitting, but the plate discipline looks good at 10.1% (11th). The Pirates have put up four runs in three straight days but have only won one of those games. You can often win those games with a solid pitching staff, which there is the potential for, even when you don't include Paul Skenes.

The revenge factor is in play for Andrew Heaney, who spent half a season with the Yankees. He had a great debut start for Pittsburgh, allowing one earned run in five innings to the Marlins.

Heaney might be able to get key strikeouts when he needs them. He has a 57% strikeout rate against Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe and a 36% strikeout rate against Cody Bellinger. However, getting through all nine batters without any blemishes will be tough.
