MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Tuesday (10/1)

We ganged up on mediocre pitchers all regular season. Unfortunately, it’s the playoffs now, so we won’t see many mediocre pitchers on the slate moving forward.

However, there are still ways to attack each playoff slate. Here are two same-game parlays (SGPs) for today’s MLB Wild Card Game 1 matchups.

New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Mets will send Luis Severino to the mound today. He’s a right-hander who has struggled against lefties over the last month. Severino has allowed a .212 ISO and wOBA of .393, with only 30.2% of ground balls induced over the previous month against lefties. In addition, Severino has given up 46.5% of hard contact to lefties and has struck out only 15.5% of lefties in the last 30 days.

Ultimately, the Brewers don’t have many elite lefties against righties. However, Garrett Mitchell is the outlier. The left-handed slugger has added a .296 ISO and wOBA of .331 against his last 59 righties. He’ll be in line for a big day against Severino in the middle of the lineup.

Meanwhile, Freddy Peralta will start for the Brewers. The right-hander has struggled immensely against righties over the last month. Peralta has allowed a .415 ISO and wOBA of .451 to his previous 50 righties. He’s also given up more than 46% of fly balls and has allowed 76.7% of hard contact to righties in the last 30 days.

Even more surprising, Peralta has struck out just 22% of righties over the last 30 days.

Therefore, Mark Vientos and Pete Alonso should be considered. Vientos is a righty who has added a .258 ISO and wOBA of .360 against his last 67 righties. Alonso has also smashed a .245 ISO and wOBA of .342 against his last 66 righties.

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres

The Atlanta Braves are in a tough spot. Without Chris Sale in the National League Wild Card Series, Atlanta will likely pivot to Bryce Elder for Game 1.

Elder is a right-hander who hasn’t pitched in the MLB in over a month. He’s thrown against 226 batters this season but has collectively allowed a .180 ISO and wOBA of .375. He’s been poor against both sides of the plate. He’s struck out only 15.7% of lefties but he’s allowed a 59.7% hard contact rate to righties.

Both sides of the plate can come through against Elder.

That said, Fernando Tatis has added a .305 ISO and wOBA of .382 against righties over the last month. Manny Machado has launched a .232 ISO and wOBA of .378 against his last 88 righties faced.

Finally, Jackson Merrill has come through with a .299 ISO and wOBA of .391 against his last 72 righties.

The Padres should pounce on a Braves squad that used a lot of energy yesterday to even make the playoffs.
