New York Yankees at San Diego Padres

You could have assumed playing in New York on Thursday and then San Diego on Friday; there would be some jet lag, but not the Yankees. They were sending the baseball on a jet stream as they popped off for four home runs, including Juan Soto in his return to Petco Park. The incredible run by this starting rotation needs to be mentioned; they now have a Yankee record 12-straight games of pitching at least five innings and allowing three or fewer runs. Marcus Stroman will try to extend that as he comes in with back-to-back quality starts, allowing one run in the last 13 innings.

The Padres are above .500 and a good team overall, but with how the Dodgers are, they may realistically have to think Wild Card. Even with Soto on the other side, the offense is still excellent as they are top ten in runs, batting average, and on-base percentage, but now they are without Xander Bogaerts, and it might have had some correlations as to why they struggled on Friday. Dylan Cease started the season well with a 1.82 ERA in his first five starts, but he’s had some mixed results lately, including a season-worse five earned against the Braves.

Now Cease gets a lineup that has been on fire recently, along with one of the better pitching staffs in the game. Take the Yankees in another win.

Kansas City Royals at Tampa Bay Rays

  • Leg 1: Royals Moneyline (-110)
  • Leg 2: Over 8.5 Runs (+105)
  • Leg 3: Royals Over 3.5 Runs (-140)

The Royals are one of the best stories in baseball. They went from being the worst team in baseball last year to just being one game out of first in the American League Central. They are the hottest team with a seven-game winning streak, and the offense has been scorching as they are batting .332 with a .377 OBP and .962 OPS during that winning streak. What a fantastic turnaround it has been for Brady Singer. He’s coming off his worst season, going 8-11 with a 5.52 ERA, but the significant change is making his slider his leading pitch, and improvement in the movement has hitters batting .188 off the pitch.

While the Royals are hot, the Rays are cold. They are coming in tied with a league-worst five straight losses, and the season has been filled with injuries and some of their best players regressing, pulling them down in the American League East. Tampa Bay’s trade for Aaron Civale last year is not working out, as he’s just 4-7 with a 5.66 ERA in 20 starts. He did start 2024 well but has an 8.64 ERA and opponents batting .317 in his last six starts.

The Rays are just 1-5 in those starts, and it’s difficult to imagine him holding down the hottest team in the league.
