MLB Same Game Parlays: Dodgers vs. Cubs (Tuesday)

The MLB season begins Tuesday morning between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in Tokyo, Japan.

While MLB’s Opening Day isn’t until March 27th, the league is playing two early games in Japan to grow the game. This allows Japanese fans to watch their favorite players in the MLB, including Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shota Imanaga.

Tuesday’s opener will be a game between two Japanese studs. Yamamoto will get the ball for the Dodgers, while Imanaga will pitch for the Cubs.

The Tokyo Dome’s roof will be closed. Meanwhile, the straightaway center field is 400 feet and the corners are about 328 feet. Ultimately, the Tokyo Dome is unlike most ballparks in the MLB. The dimensions are the same on both sides.

I’ve put together a same-game parlay (SGP) for Tuesday’s game below. Tail along if you’d like.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs

Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 27.2% of batters last season. He also walked only 6.2% of batters and allowed just a .135 ISO and wOBA of .272. In addition, Yamamoto earned over 50% of ground balls and limited teams to only 21.3% of fly balls. That’ll help him pitch deeper in this game.

Meanwhile, Yamamoto added nearly 25% of whiffs and earned more than 12% of swinging strikes. He struggled to begin last season, but he’s already had four spring training starts and has earned 14 strikeouts in only 13 innings. If he can get through five innings, you have to imagine Yamamoto will earn at least six strikeouts.

Ultimately, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch, Dansby Swanson and Pete-Crow Armstrong all struck out at least 23.7% of the time against righties last season. Kyle Tucker is a good addition in the middle of the lineup, but there are still many chances for Yamamoto to earn strikeouts.

On the other hand, Shota Imanaga earned 25.1% of strikeouts for the Cubs last season. The lefty also walked just 4% of batters all season. Still, his ground ball rate was low and his fly ball rate was high. He also allowed teams to hit 46% of hard contact against him last season.

It’s already known Mookie Betts won’t play in this series due to an illness. However, against lefties, Shohei Ohtani slugged a .235 ISO and wOBA of .384 with a 62.8% hard contact rate and a 17.1% barrel rate. If he connects against Imanaga, Ohtani can do something very special.

In addition, Teoscar Hernandez also concluded the 2024 season with a .284 ISO and wOBA of .396 against lefties. He smashed a 60.6% hard-hit rate and earned an even higher barrel percentage than Ohtani against lefties last season.

Let’s take Ohtani and Hernandez to each add at least two total bases to finish off this parlay.

Parlay Odds: +630
