MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions: Thursday (9/19)

If it weren’t for Tanner Houck leaving the game after just 60 pitches or so, we surely would have found a sweep. Let’s bust out the brooms for the MLB slate today. Here are three of my favorite player predictions via Sleeper this Thursday, September 19.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions

Sleeper Record: 209-123 (62.9%)

Zach Eflin Fewer Than 1.5 Walks (1.45x)

If you've been following along this year, you already know the vibe when Eflin pitches. He ranks in the top 98th percentile in BB%, staying under this line in 24 of his 26 starts. There's really not much more to say than that, so take this “free” leg and run with it.

Chris Sale More Than 6.5 Strikeouts (1.52x)

Another staple of the Sleeper Series has been soon-to-be NL Cy Young winner, Chris Sale. No matter the matchup, the Braves’ lanky lefty finds the strikeouts, ranking in the top 97th percentile in both K% and CSW%. He has found at least seven strikeouts in 20 of his 28 starts and takes on a weaker lineup in Cincinnati. They are fourth in K% (28.1%) and 27th in wRC+ (70) since the start of August facing southpaws

Logan Gilbert Fewer Than 7.5 Strikeouts (1.64x)

Gilbert has been incredible for the Mariners all season, but facing the Yankees will not be easy for him, or any pitcher for that matter. They have been one of the more difficult lineups to strike out this year, and are 22nd in K% (20.9%) and first in wRC+ (121), thanks to Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Despite his dominance throughout the season, Gilbert has stayed under this line in 20 of his 30 starts, so take the Under in a tough matchup.
