Wednesday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions

This season: 80-63-9

Yordan Alvarez Over 0.5 Walks

At this point, the Twins are better off pitching around Yordan Alvarez. The Astros slugger is on fire right now. He was robbed of a double yesterday thanks to the home scorekeeper and still went 3-5 with two doubles and a home run. In Game 2, he hit a two-run homer, and he was 2-3 with two dingers in Game 1. If he comes up to the dish with first base open, don’t be surprised they intentionally walk him. Alvarez has a good eye and ranked in the 93rd percentile in BB% on the season as well.

Jose Altuve Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

As the old adage goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’m going back to the well on this one with Jose Altuve, who has now eclipsed this mark in 13 of his last 17 games dating back to the end of the regular season. Hitting atop of the powerful Astros lineup, if Altuve reaches base, there’s a decent chance he scores with the likes of Alex Bregman, Alvarez and Kyle Tucker hitting behind him. He could see up to five plate appearances and should be able to get over this mark once again.

Brandon Pfaadt Over 2.5 Earned Runs

The Dodgers’ lack of offense through two games is obviously going to be over-magnified due to the importance of these games. However, they were one of the best-hitting teams over the 162-game regular season and should rebound facing the Diamondbacks rookie right-hander.

Los Angeles faced Brandon Pfaadt twice in August, and things did not go well for him whatsoever. He allowed four earned runs and six hits across 4.2 innings on Aug. 8 and went just four innings while permitting eight hits and six earned runs on Aug. 30. Pfaadt pitched in the Wild Card series and gave up seven hits and three earned in his 2.2 innings pitched. Look for the Dodgers to come out with a hot start in this must-win game.
