Wednesday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions

PrizePicks this season: 81-65-9 | Sleeper Picks Playoffs: 13-8

Yordan Alvarez Over 0.5 Walks

At this point, why would they throw to Yoradn Alverez? All he does is hit dingers when they do. Alverez is 9-23 this postseason with six homers, two doubles and a walk. Max Scherzer returns to the mound for his first start in over a month, so who knows what his command will really be like. For what it is worth, Alvarez is 4-7 with a home run and three walks in 10 plate appearances against “Mad Max.” Even if he doesn’t walk facing Scherzer, there is always the potential of an intentional walk to him, given the heater he is on right now.

Michael Brantley Over 0.5 Hits

The numbers Michael Brantley has against Max Scherzer are astonishing. He is 20-54 with eight doubles, a triple and three home runs, facing the eventual Hall of Famer. Brantley has his dad in the stands, keeping him in check with his hitting mechanics, and he has a hit in all four playoff games he has started. Since returning to the team in late August, Brantley has recorded a hit in 11 of his last 18 games started, with a .299 batting average. As a contact hitter, that’s around his career average of .298, and he should find another hit tonight.

Evan Carter Over 0.5 Walks

Most people have never heard of Evan Carter, but the Rangers rookie is an OBP machine. He’s been an integral part of their offensive success this postseason, leading all hitters with a 234 wRC+. Bruce Bochy has stated that he will probably move him up to the three-spot in the lineup tonight.

Carter has a phenomenal feel of the zone and has gone over this line in five of his seven games this postseason, with seven walks in 28 PAs (25% BB%). This walk rate is nothing new for Carter, who had an elite ~16% BB% in his limited time up at the big leagues, not far off from his career 15.7% BB% in the Minors. Cristian Javier has always struggled with his control and ranked in the 30th percentile in BB% among all starters this season. He’s coming off an outing in which he issued five free passes in five innings of work, too. With his patient approach, back Carter to record a walk tonight.
